This probably isn't going to work... But I have a suggestion!

If I say something against the rules/you disagree with... Rather than delete the post, can you just edit my text?

I end up confused, wondering if I said anything at all when you just delete a post without explanation. I'd much rather you just edited it, so I can find it and learn from my mistakes (:D). I can't even remember what thread it was in...

Yea, I'd find this helpful as well. Sometimes a post vanishes and I end up wondering if I'm imagining posting it, or if I didnt hit submit, or if it was deleted. Last thing i'd want to do is repeat something that got deleted

This is what soft delete is for.

Maybe its a time thing, so many posts to moderate delete is so much faster than edit and save,

if mods are snowed under with RTM's and bad posts at times when the forum is busy it might compromise the whole forum in relation to the rules and make the mods/forum look bad if something slipped through that needed taking down rightaway but was left because it was way down the list and mods were editing so many posts.

Just a thought.

Can't see anything - there is nothing there at all. No evidence you'd posted.
That's what I thought, I believe the only place ordinary members can see it is in MM as they have some additional admin rights to close their own threads.

So what of the times the bad posts remain there once RTM'd until a mod actually gets to it?

Doubt an extra 5mins is going to hurt anything more...

I've asked this before, and that the editing mod show their name so the poster knows who best to contact.

A more open moderation level would be great, if anything it seems that it's going the other direction though.

People seeing why others are being told off will help reinforce the rules in readers minds.

I must admit that it’s very tiresome when posts just vanish from the face of the earth. I thought the era of Soviet style censorship had finished. IT would be helpful of it least it said deleted and even better if a one line reason was given. Surely that isn’t so time consuming?

This! I think the mods are great on this forum, but the disappearance of threads and posts (and sometimes people!) can be confusing. The last thread like this suggested a ban/deletion/suspension explanation thread stickied, but that was deleted!

it really confuses me when posts just go missing, and I've been in the situation myself where I thought I'd posted but couldn't find the post and not been able to figure out what had happened.

This is seriously needed.

As well as this, to reinforce the former. I've noticed a trend of mods acting then not wanting to admit who it was. A transparent type of moderation will improve the atmosphere here a lot I think.

It's not where near as bad as it used to be, but I agree with simulatorman, this place has got a bad reputation because of some of the moderators.

Maybe and maybe not. The danger is however that individual Dons will get bogged down in debates about what the post said originally, and if it should indeed have been edited rather than a blanket "it's gone".

Whilst I generally appreciate transparency I can't help but feel given the strong personalities around here it would be "a bad thing" that would just degenerate into arguments about censorship and modding.
