This morning at 6:10am, some knob with "bling" diamante (ghey) beats headphones decided to share his Gangsta "Music" with the whole train carriage. Each time someone tapped him on the shoulder asking him to turn it down, he'd turn it right down then go full volume 5 mins later...

This sort of thing seems to be more common now, and this guy wasn't even a chav, he was an office worker. I do notice that these people are being pulled up on it more often now by those who used to grin and bear it which is heartening.

So the question is, how long before we have an army of vigilante commuters armed with scissors? :p

Seriously though, what's the best way to deal with these selfish idiots? Has anyone come up with a novel solution (burning headphone cables with lasers, defenestrating the offender etc?) :D

I don't have this problem, nor do I generally care about it however I can hear this guy across the other platform with his headphones on pumping out DnB and this is at 4PM when its not exactly quiet.

His ears are going to be shot to ****.

I guess you could take comfort knowing that he's damaging his hearing, a quiet victory :D

Hahah... Thing is, on an early morning train, a lot of people are trying to get a cheeky snooze in before work. Maybe an Arctic Spyder laser may be the solution. Headphones on fire might work a treat! ;)

Putting my iPod on doesn't work and doesn't help other people. I can still hear them in the quieter parts of any music I listen to.

I already *ahem* took action to quieten the loud bint on her phone on my day shift commute home (on the phone ALL the way home EVERY day up until recently). Just need to think how I can covertly tackle this problem now. :p

Maybe they need a "Disco Carriage" so all these idiots can sit together.

If I happen to be sitting next to them, I'll show them this message which I have saved on my phone:

If you're going to listen to awful music at stupidly loud volumes, please at least invest in some decent headphones (i.e. > £1) that don't leak 98% of your music. Not everyone on this train wants to hear your music. Thank you!

iPhone/iPod headphones seem to be the worst offenders when it comes to leaking noise. That and any other cheap **** headphones (but I'm a headphone snob anyway, so meh) ;)

Get a boom box.

Six opposite them.

Blare out Morzarts sixth symphony in their face.

Stare and grin.

See how they like it.

So what's the problem did he then play chicken with the train and delay your arrival?

No, the problem is that it irritates everyone on the train and gets them agitated before they start work. Not an ideal start to the day.

It's not inconcievable that the average commuter should have enough intelligence and common courtesy to not be a selfish git.

LOL @ J-Fro. :D

OCDude: Apple's standard headphones should be banned.

if you can hear his music over the quiet parts of yours, your headphones suck, get some decent sound isolating IEMs like Ultimate Ears and you'll be lucky to hear someone talking to you if there is any sound coming through them. That's how I rolled when I had to get the train.

complain to the guard?

Hurrah, oh, wait... :p

I wonder how many of those who'd say "falcon punch him" etc are actually the ones who sit there rolling their eyes but doing nothing. ;)

Funniest one recently has to be some Eastern European bloke listening to some rave music loud enough to make his ears bleed and actually waving his fists in the air. I think he might have been munching on disco biscuits beforehand though.

I suppose moaning about stuff like this means I'm turning into an old git... Meh.

Sound quality on mine is pretty good... they are ~£45 Panasonic in-ear something or other. They leak no noise at high volume. Might look at that suggestion though, thanks, although it doesn't help my fellow commuters. ;)

Sit in the quiet carriage where headphones and noise aren't allowed? May seem like a simple solution but that's what I used to do when commuting to London on a packed train.

Nowadays work is 5 mins away by the sea and a volcano. Moving to NZ may be a bit more effort than the first option but it also worked for me.

Sadly there are no quiet carriages on Metro services, although I've written to South Eastern about it - they said no chance as it's a "turn up and travel" service. :(

I've found in the past that quiet carriages and 1st class are no barrier to inconsiderate tards tbh.
