I'd look at it :
PS3 was launched in the UK in 2007 so...
4 x £32 (Going rate) = £128
just over 8p a day or Free with unsecure, inferior service ?
I'm sure I used PSN with my PS2, when the original Xbox charged a premium.

Would rather pay £40 a year than having my psn and soe details stolen which might have happend

im really scared about having my details stolen, details which most people actually advertise on their facebook for free. as for credit card details, its insured, i hope they do use them as i hate credit card companies and i know i will get refunded.
Gotta love fanboy math.
Looks like MS recovered from shipping original 360 consoles that broke so I'm sure Sony will recover from being hacked. Hacked being the lesser of evils compared to hardware that breaks. (IMO)
I like both consoles, I don't like fanboys throwing their choice down peoples throats.
Who knows? Maybe MS will be next, just because they charge a premium and haven't been hacked doesn't necessarily mean that they can't be.
Still gotta go through the grief to sort it out when you shoudnt have to
No fanboy maths at all, to compare a PSN for "10" years is fan boy maths. Sony released the network adaptor for the PS2 in 2002 to compete with Xbox (yeah you had to pay for the adaptor). It was an after thought and relied on 3rd party servers/publishers not a dedicated network.
and FYG I have both the PS3 and Xbox and have roughly 50/50 split in games for both platforms, I subscribe to Xbox Live and Playstation Plus. I do however honestly believe that you get what you pay for.
1 phone call, and sign a piece of paper and fax it back to them, all of 5 mins of grief to know your finances are secure. it hasnt happened to anyone yet, so theres no grief to go through anyway. and i doubt it ever will. credit card fraud is getting extremely hard to do nowadays, theres more security in that field than there is in iraq.
So you say there is 5min grief then say there isnt any...and you doubt it will happen? Isnt that the same as this issue happening with psn atm
you cant compare the two
at last you get it...
psn has been free for 9 years (sorry i was 1 year out, i couldnt be ***** googling, seems like someone else wasn't) 9 x £32 = about £300, hell i could have bought another 2 ps3's for that

This all proves one thing, PC is the ultimate gaming platform, cheaper games and free online gaming on a network that's alway on!
Its just a shame the majority of PC only gamers are complete *******.
Agreed just look at the number of 360 owners here trying to bait as a good example. I love my PC games, just dont love the constant upgrading cost...pc gamers > console gamers
i have found

Am I the only one who finds it odd that Sony are taking all the blame? No-one seems to be directing their frustration at the hackers.
pc gamers > console gamers

Jesus youve got a chip on your shoulder - its obvious they would have done a risk assessment of their network and decided that the chance of the exploit compromising their whole network was low enough not to cost against.Errrmmm YES!
You do realize that the vulnerability that the hackers exploited was known to Sony for a significant amount of time yet their arrogance and cockiness meant they didn't bother to fix/patch it!!
