got 4GB of this stuff

and I want to go to 8GB .. no one in the UK has any more of the same (CL6)

so do I ebay it and get an

or hold out for another 4GB kit of the same ..

Surely it depends how long you're prepared to wait.

If the RAM you have now isn't available new then you'll have to wait a week, a month, a year for some second hand.

If you want it now buy 8GB and sell what you have or buy a different 4GB and hope you can get them to work together.
 
I thought so ..

bearing in mind the following three factors

AMD 1090T @ 4ghz
3 x HD5870 1GB GPUs
SSD 80G and a few other performance parts

will I see much performance drop / increase by going from 4GB CL6 to 8GB of the vengeance or the XMS3 for similar price ?

is MORE better than slightly faster ??
 
Gaming ... as high end as I can make it with AMD ( should have gone intel and nvidia I know)

currently trying to make crysis cry out in pain rather than the system screaming for more :)
 
Ah, in that case the performance difference between CL6 and CL9 RAM will be negligable, however, with that said games can't really make use of more than 4GB RAM, so perhaps upgrading to 8GB isn't going to yield much in terms of gaming performance.

Have you got an SSD?

Edit: Just saw build log - looks very nice and SSD is in use. In that case I say go for 8GB XMS3 and be future-proofed or put the money in a jar for the next big upgrade (or go mad and buy a mechanical keyboard).

yup intel X25M 80GB

and a spare Raptor 500GB for data if I find room in the case to install it :P

I was wondering if having 3 x 1GB GPU's would need more system RAM to buffer against ?
 
As others have said 4 gig is fine for games.

If you want to turn windows paging off then sell the 4 and pick up 8 gig.

Is your motherboard one of the am3+ compat ones ?

Just for Info

the Rig as it was had issues with loading textures at beginning of each scene in Crysis 2

Removed the Dominator 4GB and added 8GB Vengeance at lower timings and those problems went away

if anyone ever asks for running high end games with muchos texturo's

Moar > fast !

I might just slap the 4GB Dommies back in for 12GB ... but I hate the RED heatsinks on them ... Only bought the vengeance as they are Blue :)

(Yes I'm that ghey !)
