I imagine that there have been quite a few threads like this in the past, but a search revealed that there have been none very recent i thought i would start a new thread.:)

I used to buy the Times every day and read it completely through, however i stopped reading it when they got Jeremy Clarkson and Martin Samuel in and it just generally went downhill, about 2 years ago i think.
I stopped reading the paper all together but now i am thinking that i really should start again.
I have been reading the Independent for a few weeks, but it just seems a bit woolly if you understand what i mean. I get the impression that there is quite a bit of news that is not reported in it, or is not gone in to detail enough.

So, i am looking for a new paper to read. I am not too worried about political bias, as you can generally look through it if you know it's there. As little comment as possible too really, as i don't really like them tbh.

Any suggestions?
What do you read?

PS. I find that it's just not the same getting all your news online, i like to have the paper:)

i don't usually buy a paper myself but my folks get the telegraph and save them for me if i don't manage to get it off them on the day. it's a well informed read imo with a great sport and business supplements and good world news section.
 
On the rare times that I want to buy a newspaper, I read The Telegraph when I can find it (none of my local shops sell it). Failing that, it's The Times.

I read The Telegraph online.
 
Either the 20p Independent or The Sun. On a Sunday if I get anything it's probably going to be the Scotland on Sunday.

Don't have time for a full paper so the 'i' is ideal. If I want a quick dose of scottish football/light reading I get The Sun.

Normally read the Guardian online.

I generally got on well with The Times, it has the best sport section by a mile for a start, but there was a point a few years ago when it was just filled too much with comment. I might get it again tomorrow to see how it is now. Does Martin Samuel still do the football because i really can't stand him?

I have thought about The Telegraph, as the way they broke and handled the expenses scandal won them a few points with me tbh.:)
 
I read the Sun as it's all the people at work buy. I spend most of my time laughing at what they jokingly call news.
 
Sounds like you want the i - it's almost all news and not much comment. To be honest though, if you want news and not comment you're better off not buying a newspaper at all unless the i takes your fancy.

Personally I prefer the Independent. I don't like editorial bias in my newspapers, which pretty much excludes all other titles. Plus I like virtually all the Indie's columnists. In a pinch I'll read the Guardian if the Indie isn't available, but it's too left-wing even for me, and very pretentious with it.

Martin Samuel departed for the Daily Mail, what a waste of column space he was. The paper did go through a bit of a bad patch and it was a quite wishy-washy but I persevered with it. The sports coverage has certainly improved and is very good again.

Am I the only one who stereotypes and judges people who read certain newspapers?

I generally think that Sun readers are stupid or have no interest in actual news and are just after page three.

Daily mail readers are xenophobic, uneducated but at least have the interest in news, even if they can't see that their views are deeply flawed.

Guardian readers are liberal hippies, but are generally well educated and intelligent. I don't agree with most of it, but at least I can respect some of the journalism.

I bought the Independent on Sunday, i went up to the counter and the guy said "that's £1.80" I couldn't believe it! Most of it was just useless padding anyway. There was an especially smug piece by Janet Street-Porter about why people shouldn't shop in Supermarkets and a 3 page interview with Danny Dyer (which admittedly was hilarious though:p)

Lets just say I took it as a general sign that it was time to move on;)
Obviously it wasn't just because of them, it was going downhill at the time.
 
The only news papers i read are

The Times
The Independent
The guardian
The telegraph, but some articles make rage

The Economist - Love it, my favourite, more of a magazine though.


The newspapers I hate are:

Daily Mail, unless your perfect white family(which i am) which does not compose of students, over 50, then you are likely to be offended by it.

The sun
