why does my motherboard reserve 1Gb Ram for the system a asrock crossfire esata 2 how do i get it back i have 4gb but only 3gb usable

no the graphics are dedicated ati x1950 and its 64bit windows 7 professional i think it says on asrocks website somewhere about it being a feauture not sure

Make sure that 'memory remap' is enabled in the BIOS.

Check in your system resource monitor that it isn't reserving memory for hardware. a lot of people have complained about this since installing Win7 x64.

it also says due to chipset limitations it might not all be available it says this in the manual i think its cos its running dual channel how do i knock it into single channel

also is it faster too have 2gb running in dual channel or 3gb running in single channel

Did you try enabling 'memory remap' in the BIOS?

It may not be worded the exact same way in the BIOS - but if it's not enabled it would cause a problem similar to this regardless of OS.

There's a number of possible reasons for this.

Most likely is that you're using 2 sticks of memory but not using them in the right slots, therefore windows detects it but wont use them, and designates them hardware reserved. Should be able to check in your mobo manual to see which ones you should use. usually it is 2+4 or 1+3 for two sticks.

Ok ill try and punctuate. I have a matched pair in slots 1 and 3 and those are both 1gb sticks. I have 2gb stick in slot 3. For some reason its still kicking into dual channel mode. Also anyone got any ideas what memory remap could be called.
