Madeleine McCann's parents

Talk about raising suspicions (as if they could be raised any higher), the last thing you would want to do after your daughter was kidnapped is cash in on it by writing a book and reliving the ordeal, this is perhaps even more ridiculous than their remake of "Everything I do".

I read some of the stuff in the sun about them leaving the kids alone and parents would check up on them, the tapas bar was only a short distance away etc. etc., when I was a kid, we either stayed out with the parents or went home to the apartment with them, no way would I leave my kid in an apartment and go for a drink/food at 9pm+ even if it was only 30 yards away.

Apartments have kitchens so why they couldnt of had some food in the room/balcony.

To come out and blame everyone else is shocking, they even said the receptionist had written down in the table bookings about the parents wanting to eat in a certain location because they wanted to keep checking on children sleeping in the apartments and that this was not right and that anyone could have seen that stuff written down.

No matter what one thinks of the parents, an innocent child has gone missing and will probably never be found. Her parent's failed her undoubtedly and as a result they will have to live with the consequences for the rest of their lives, even if they were indeed involved in some way with her disappearance, which I personally very much doubt.

It's not something I could pretend to begin to contemplate, the emotions that must arise after the loss of one's child under such circumstances.

The McCann case is not unlike that of the missing British child Ben Needham, who also vanished into thin air one day around 20 years ago while on holiday on Kos. Did people also accuse the parents in this case of being part of a similar conspiracy?

There is absolutely no evidence to suggest that the McCanns were somehow involved in their daughter's disappearance, merely suspicions which from the lack of evidence, appear unfounded and do Madie's parents a terrible injustice.

I sometimes wish that just for once, people would actually think about what they are implying when they accuse parents of being involved in their child's disappearance and if the proceeds from this book enables Madie to be found or to discover what actually happened to her, then it's money well spent.

On the other side of the coin, this money may be being used by the family to cover up the truth. I'm sure you're aware of the amount of criminal proceedings the family have brought against individuals and organisations whenever they dare mention (how lightly or innocently) that the family may be involved or know more than they are telling.

It isn't right, and it stinks of having something to hide.

They are happy for all the coverage in the world; as long as it is in tune with their version of events. Surely any coverage for their daughters sake is good?

If they could put their own ego aside?

Good old Ocuk crime detection. Remember when you all spouted off how the ex teacher did it because he looked a bit suspect.

I don't think they had anything to do with it other than serious neglect.

I don't blame the parents for not giving up and trying to fund it. Where as in the soham murders one of the sets of family made it into a profit for the benefit of themselves and not charity. Hardly anyone cares about that though.

I don't think seh needed to go into detail about sex drive, but I am interested to hear how the portugese police made a complete pigs ear of the investigation.

I read an extract in the paper where previous to that quite a few parents in the area on holiday had reported an intruder in apartments and reports of children being sexually abused. All of which was not treated seriously by the police.

Do you actually blame them? Supposing your child went missing and you were accused of being involved ...how would you react?

They were complicit in her disappearance simply by their neglect of their Children's welfare.

While I am saddened by the plight of any Parent who loses a child under any circumstances it doesn't mean that we cannot be critical of the McCanns and their approach to Parenting, especially considering that not only did they leave a 4 year old child alone, but also effectively with the responsibility for two younger children.

Whether they were checking back every 30 minutes or not, it is highly irresponsible for any Parent to leave children of such a young age unattended while they were out socialising, especially in a foreign environment.

The Tapas bar was 120m away from their Apartment, this is the same as going to the Pub at the end of your street and leaving your young children alone in an unlocked house without any supervision for extended periods of time. It is irresponsible in the extreme, and as Doctors and supposedly intelligent people it beggars belief that they do not consider it to be so to this day.

Even when they and their friend checked on the Children, one of the friends only listened at the window on the first occasion and only saw the Twins on the second, yet it was half an hour after that friend only saw the twins that Kate McCann found Maddie missing and raised the alarm, again would not checking on their children actually require looking in on them physically instead of simply listening at a window, or only checking on some of them?.

There are some pretty serious discrepancies in the accounts of each of the Friends as well as the McCanns and the Resort Officials, some of this we can put down to the panic of the Parents and friends, but it does imply that there is some discrepancies in the accounts that are not accounted for by emotions.

The ironic thing is that Praia da Luz has Child-Minding, Creche and a Nanny service that was available at the time to the McCanns, yet they decided against it presumably because of the cost involved.

I think it's very odd that whenever someone comes out with an alternative view of what happened than what the family think they are met with lawyers and threats of court action.
Why are they so worried about the press divulging other (plausible) scenarios unless they have something to hide?
Surely any publicity is good publicity?

Everyone is to blame but them is the impression I got.

What do you do with all this money?

If there are no leads or anything, where do you start when looking for her?
