I've just woke up and logged onto my internet bank and have had a total of 33 transactions to XBOX all at £4.25  I thought it was one of my kids buying microsoft points for FIFA.

I've cancelled my card and am in the process of trying to get my money back from my bank.

Surely it's the card that has been compromised, not your xbox account?
If the card has been saved on the Live account, you don't need any CC info to purchase from the Marketplace. So if someone 'hacked/stole' a Live account, they can go on a crazy spending spree, on Live only ofc!

Points for Fifa you say, sounds like someone has fell for the many phising attempts that Fifa players get, messages to get free coins, free players etc

I get that... but you can only add points to your own account can't you?

So why would I hack someones account and add points to their account?? Seems pointless!

Welcome to the Console forum btw.

Pointless but totally annoying if you are on the receiving end of it. Someone hitting the limit or even going over it on your card can cause all sorts of problems for you.

I worked in the Card Fraud department of a bank for 4 years - I know all to well the problems it can cause :(

Just seems pointless to do if you dont benefit, I understood the Live system was pretty weak in terms of address checks meaning you could often assign stolen card details to your account and spam it for your own gain.

Just don't understand what the fraudster would get out of adding money from someone else card to their account; seems really odd thing to do?!

Yep, don't quite understand it myself - it seems like a completely pointless thing to do as there's no benefit to anyone else here.

Hence me thinking it's the card compromised not the account; a common area of fraud is mobile top ups to as little protection/security about them, see lots of O2 Top Up fraud, I assume this will be similar...

Unless they bought packs in FIFA and any good players were auctioned over to the intruders own account for peanuts? I presume thats how the FIFA UT phishing has been working, just that this time theyve also gone and bought packs in FIFA...

ps3ud0

IF Players in ultimate team have gone on ebay for as much as £100 for 1 card. buying packs with say a £1K limit on a card, is pretty much guaranteed to rake in a lot of money.

Transfer all IF Players and Players over 5K to your own account.

with all under 5K sell for cheap (50% of normal asking, so they sell within 10 seconds) or discard all others and then transfer all the coins to your account.

you could easily then sell the coins and IF players on ebay, even some of the normal top rated players too, messi, ronaldo, rooney, drogba, etc.

They buy player accounts on MMO's as well for £100's. it really is quite sad infact. just play the game instead and earn stuff yourself for free.

People buy Fifa players on Ebay? Good god people are sad.

my wee bro (14) told me some guy in his class got IF Drogba, one had sold on ebay for £90. he then sold it to a classmate for £40.

i was like what a retard, he could have made £90 instead of £40, or sold it on psn for like 3 million coins or whatever he was worth at the time (ps3 pricing). then sold the 3 million coins on ebay, think you get £10 for 100,000 coins, thats essentially £300.

the kid walked away with a bargain for £40.

Can you log into xbox live still?

I think so, I don't use the XBOX ...just the kids.

Thanks. P.C gaming all the way for me ;)

I think It's the XBOX account that was hacked, no other transactions of a suspicious nature have gone out.

Maybe they bought a shed load of points to sell on?. Pretty sad really.

How much are the points anyway?. I assume 500 for £4.25?.

Edit, I forgot to mention that there were 6 more payments pending (according to my bank) before they killed my debit card.

Yep.

I wonder whether this is anything to do with something weird I see on ebay from time to time... People sell accounts laden with points at a stupidly low price and tell you that what you need to do is buy all your downloads or whatever from that account and then just let it die and go back to using your main account. It would kind of fit.
