Hey guys,

So ive just installed my new cooler on the 6950 2gb

I got the Gelid Icy Vision Rev.2

My idle temps use to be 61c :( on stock cooler,Now im getting 33c on idle....however i tried Furmark stability test and the load temp goes to 97c

Is it too high?...will games ever push it as far as furmark did?

Also i seem to have lost the ability to control the fan settings in Catalyst, whatever i change it to and apply....the fan speed remains the same....i have the new coolers fans plugged where the stock fan was plugged into like it says in the manual...any ideas?

No its not too high, gfx cards can handle a lot of heat, and no, no game is likely to push it as hard as furmark anyway
not sure about fan control if youve plugged it in correct it should work, maybe reinstall the driver (long shot)

Hey guys thanks for reply.

Turns out the reason this particular cooler cannot be controlled manually OR software based is because on the card theres 4 pins to power the fans...but this cooler only has 3 of the 4 wires...the PWM wire isnt there. :/

You'd expect it to run a little cooler than 97 degrees C when both fans are pelting along at their full speed of 2000rpm. Are they running at full speed? The speed should be reported in MSI Afterburner so you can check. The cooler should be pretty noisy in full speed mode.

Your graphics card controls by PWM and the Icy Vision needs to be controlled by Voltage so there isn't much you can do to automatically control the fan speed via the graphics card, unless you fancy creating a PWM to Voltage circuit to convert the signal.

If you get a converter you could run the Icy Vision fans off to a fan controller or a motherboard header.

The idle temperatures tend to be a lot higher if you are using multiple monitors.

Nevakonaza - Grab some Scythe Ninja Wire or do something a little more ghetto with a shoelace and some cable ties.

Glad you have got your temps under control now. Furmark really does stress your card much more than any game will.

Now ive got the problem of the card starting to sag downwards due to the weight. :(

i really do hate computers sometimes!

As tealc said, get yourself some Scythe Ninja Wire:

I use it on my top 6950 as that one sags quite a bit, probably due to wear and tear as my mb's about 3 yrs old. The other one doesn't need it as the pci-e slots hardly been used.

I don't think oc stock it though, so you would have to look on the bay or somewhere else, it's cheap though, about 7 quid.
