(Reuters) - Police said on Monday they had received a warning of a bomb in central London, a day before the Queen makes an historic visit to Ireland.

Sky News said the warning came from Irish republican dissidents.

"A bomb threat warning has been received relating to central London today. The threat is not specific in relation to location or time," London police said in a statement. "The threat level from Irish-related terrorism has not increased and remains at substantial..."

(BBC) - Bomb warning received in London

A bomb warning has been received relating to central London, the Metropolitan Police has confirmed.

The force said the threat did not provide specifics about location or time.

The Mall and other central London streets were closed on Monday morning although a link has not been confirmed.

The warning is thought to be related to Irish dissident republicans and a police statement said officers have been advised to be highly vigilant.

The BBC understands the police received a coded bomb warning.

Vigilance urged
The police have told the public to continue going about their business but to be vigilant.

The current threat level from international terrorism for the UK is assessed as severe.

The threat level for Northern Ireland-related terrorism is set separately for Northern Ireland and Great Britain. In Northern Ireland it is severe and in Great Britain substantial.

Severe means that a terrorist attack is highly likely, substantial that an attack is a strong possibility.

Hmmm I'm working in central London. Wonder if the car is driving around or parked. (assuming this is reliable)

The police always over-estimate the terrorist risk, just to cover their backs if something does happen.

We've been at 'substancial' risk of attack in the city for about a decade, and we've had 1. Total.

I think these terrorists are rubbish. I could hurt more people, and I wouldn't have to go to a daft training camp to learn how to do it ..

^^ What he said. And we've had two if you count the bus/train as separate attacks.

"We've planted a bomb in London!"
"Where in London?"
"Not sure ..."
"What time is it going to go off?"
"Hmm, no idea, sorry"

Whilst i am not one for turning OcUK into an RSS feed, i think it is important shout outs like this make it to the forums in the eventually that somebody reads here who doesn't necessarily keep tabs on main stream media.

Stay safe Londoners.

It wasn't a slight on your original post, more on the the alledged complete lack of any useful information from the police.

Nice distortion of facts there. In addition to 7/7 we had the failed 21/7 and Haymarket bombs in London. That's not to mention the other attacks around the country (Glasgow, Exeter etc).

Plus the IRA is more active now than it has been for 15 years.

Don't live with your head in the clouds.
