iphone 4 or Andriod? costs and benefits? Will be updating my phone soon for something a bit newer. I really like the iPhone 4, but is it really too much for a phone compared to some of the others.

Just wait and see what the iP5 is like, think they are meant to be making an annoucment about September time.

Are you currently sitting in a coffee shop drinking a frappuccino while designing QQQ (replace QQQ with wallpaper, speedos, minimalist furniture, or the cover of Gay Times as appropriate)? If you answered yes to this question, get the Iphone, if not get a decent android phone.

Depends on what you want it for?

If you just want it to work and have very little input or control then get the iPhone.

If you actually enjoy having some control over your £500 piece of hardware then get an Android based device. The Galaxy S2 is getting rave reviews at the moment, its one of (if not the most) powerful phone on the market.

The iPhone 5 is just meant to be an incremental update with nothing ground breaking happening until the next one is released apparently in the 1st/2nd quarter of next year.

Are you currently trolling the mobile phones forums repeating tired stereotypes about the sexuality of users of a particular brand of hardware? If you answered yes to this question, get stuffed, if not, carry on.

PS

Android if you have time to customise it.

iPhone if you can't be bothered.

Bear in mind that Android phones are a pretty large family and there are major differences between the models.

Pro Android argument:

Someone else point out iPhone advantages. I can't be bothered.

I think the problem with that list is that bar the odd thing none are really any of the reasons i would choose android over apple.

I've got an iphone and an android based tablet and i think from that i would recommend an iphone purely for the swiftness of doing anything. I like the fact that there are so many games (albeit some are useless) that no train journey or wait is as boring as it used to be. From a phone i just want functionality therefore an iphone is the best option. However as said if you want to mess around customising things then go for an android based phone

Pretty much this.

Yeah i know android also works just fine out of the box (i've had enough of them to realise this fact), but if people just want a phone that does everything with minimal fuss and interference in day to day life then iPhone is the 'safer' option for many (not all)

Me??...... i'm on the fence - i love the simplicity of the iPhone and its easy to use and very good to get on with, but still enjoy 'tinkering' and customising my android handsets trying new roms and different ways of doing things.

Ease of use, iTunes integration/store, higher quality/generally better apps - iPhone. (4, or wait for the 4S)

Customisation, generally more features, probably cheaper - Android. (Galaxy S II/HTC Sensation)

Just to add more confusion to the argument, I would choose Android for the speed reason xD

My view on it is that if you are not a very techy person and cannot operate a smartphone with ease yet would like the features, go with the iPhone. The app-centric concept makes it very easy to figure out what you want to do; you just simply open the approriate app.

However, if you are a competent user and need your phone for important tasks (constant email, tasks, agendas etc), you might begin to find the way iOS works frustrating. It isn't really geared to that kind of use right now; notifications are intrusive (they pop up and stop you from your current task), and constantly switching between apps slows you down. There isn't really any system-wide integration between apps either, so if you are using a separate RSS reader, for example, and you have to open a webpage in Safari, the only way to return to your reader is to open the app manually again.

Customisation is another positive of Android, provided you can put an hour or two to get it all exactly the way you want.

So take your pick! :)

Thats probably an excellent point, i only use my iphone with my hotmail and its not exactly great and other than calls and texts i just use it for general gaming and browsing the odd things such as football scores etc and for that its excellent.

I think perhaps if you're wanting to get a bit more into it then its probably not the best

Essentially, yes.

I've had a chance to play with a few friends iPhones and although it is a nice bit of hardware I really do fail to see why it costs nearly double that of my X10 (contract wise).

iOS is more user friendly than android for the most part but anyone who is remotely tech savvy will not struggle with android

If price is important to you then I'd suggest looking at the various android offerings as most will do what an iphone can for a fair bit less cost but if this doesn't bother you and you really want one then go for it, it's your choice afterall.
