i am spending £200 on a graphics card upgrade
i know that the 7000 cards are too be released this year are they worth the wait over a 6990.

Was going to say!

It's somewhat in doubt as to whether they'll be released this year with conflicting reports from various rumour sources. I'd say it depends on what you have now, and how desperately you want to upgrade, plus what resolution you are using.

hmmm I would say we are only around 6months away, so it probably worth waiting.

Up to you really. Its wise to wait, as your get your money's worth when the new cards arrive.

Just get a 6950 now and enjoy it. If you wait around, you'll not want to buy a 7xxx because 8xxx will be out soon etc etc..

Waiting is not a good game to play when it comes to PC parts :)

You could just sell the 6950 when the new cards arrive to get most of your money back anyhow.

I second this, not like it's only a week away. I'll be building two new PC's soon and most likely will go for the 6950 2GB.

6950's are excellent cards, 5850's are very very good cards that are great value right now and a big step up from your 5770 anyway.

Stock 5850's aren't the best as they are heavily downclocked 5870's basically, but overclocked are insane.

Basically you have £200, you can wait 6 months, spend £200 and have a crap card in the meantime. Or you could sell the 5770, buy a 5850, maybe second hand, sell that in 6 months throw in an extra £30 maybe and get the same £200 card in 6 months anyway but have a pretty huge upgrade inbetween.

AS for a cpu upgrade being better, depends what you have, almost any quad core bought in the past 4 years will do 3.5Ghz with ease, and potentially up to 4.5Ghz depending on what you have, and a cpu upgrade will do nothing for gaming at all. If you have a dual core, it could be worth it, but if you've got a dual core that can do again 3.5-4Ghz MOST games won't have trouble with it just yet.

If you have a crap cpu and can't spend over £200, then a 5850 and something along the lines of a AMD x555 be dual core, that can normally unlock to a quad core and hit 4Ghz, for around £55 is a great combination upgrade.
