iPhone 4 or android?

Thats probably an excellent point, i only use my iphone with my hotmail and its not exactly great and other than calls and texts i just use it for general gaming and browsing the odd things such as football scores etc and for that its excellent.

I think perhaps if you're wanting to get a bit more into it then its probably not the best

I'm not as much an Apple fan as I used to be to say the least, but even I say that if you want something for casual use that is easy to use, no frills and just works, the iPhone is often a better choice than Android.

Another point is that to get Android up to par takes a bit more time, and a bit more searching and comparing apps to pick out what's best. Many apps on iOS are pretty conventional and appeal to everyone, and even though there aren't really any other decent browsers on iOS, I don't believe anyone needs anything other than Safari in the first place. The stock Android browser is a different matter; it works well, but the UI is not brilliant.

As others have said, Android is more customisable, but requires some input. The iphone just works. I recently went over to android, and am overall very pleased with the decision, but it does have the odd niggle, and I spent hours fiddling around with it getting it set up the way I wanted. Best bit though is not having to use itunes anymore!

More free apps on android by miles too - so remember you'll need to budget more than you would for an android phone.

PS before anyone flames me, I'm just talking typically here...I now plenty of ios users who won't buy any apps and the same on android. however I know very few android users who will pay for apps

Stock android browser is fast and excellent.

Stock safari browser has a silly navigation bar at the bottom that takes up valuable space on a tiny screen. And no text reflow.

Not comparing the browsers here. Comparing the choices. Safari is far better than any other iOS browser.

On Android there are many choices, and the stock browser isn't really that easy to use. With Android devices having bigger displays, there should be a navigation bar at the bottom. And the window system just doesn't work that well. Performance on heavier pages isn't as good as iOS. That said, Opera Mobile's performance on Android is better than iOS.

Are you currently trolling the mobile phones forums repeating tired stereotypes about the sexuality of users of a particular brand of hardware? If you answered yes to this question, get stuffed, if not, carry on.

PS

i guess you own an iphone then ? :)

Your the one that mentioned browsers...

As I stated earlier I beg to differ. The stock android browser on my old htc desire was great - as fast or faster than safari on iP4 and the UI is great too (there's no need for a back button as android has those already). Stock browser on the sgs2 blows them all away. Fact.

What does that matter? He's right either way.

im just saying.. ;) people that own apple hardware get very annoyed when someone comments something against it.. instead of ignoring it and carrying on.. seems like it "touches" them in an odd way and they have to reply causing more bs in the thread..

As said it really depends how you are going to use it and what you are going to put on it.
If you want to purchase media then apple or wp7 is the way to go. If you want certain apps and computer basedgamesthen again apple or wp7 is the way to gain. Same for updates.

If on the other hand you want cheaper prices and you want things like USB mass storage and don't care about certain apps or media purchases then android or wp7.

Wp7 is new and is still behind on os, but with big updates fairly regular.

The way I see it, having owned an iPhone 4 and five Android phones :

  • The iPhone is essentially an app platform; ie the user interface is designed for easily launching apps, and the breadth and depth of the app store compliments this very well. Trade-off here is that you're held to a very strict usage pattern and varying that in any way is difficult.
  • Android is much more akin to how a desktop computer works; you can install whatever the hell you want from wherever the hell you want and you get advanced control over very fine settings. Trade-off here is that it can sometimes be hard to find what you want, and can be too confusing for some users.

I really enjoyed my six months with the iPhone, and how slick and effective it was, but Android is taking leaps forward and it's getting better all the time, whereas the iPhone appears to be stagnating for the moment.

Basically it comes down to what you want out of a phone. If you just want a phone with apps, get an iPhone. If you want a portable computer, get an Android phone. There's nothing wrong with preferring one over the other :)

Conversely, it's near impossible to even mention Apple hardware without some idiot calling Apple owners gay, which is hardly accurate, fair or constructive criticism, is it?

But of course, it's fair play in these parts to insult swathes of people en masse, so we can call iPhone users gay, but it's considerably harder to call someone an idiot when they make such a stupid comment.

Yes, I mentioned browsers, but in the context of variety on the platform, not the browsers themselves. I was using them as an example of how Android gives you more variety compared to iOS, where core apps are all or nothing.

Anyway, this is going a bit of topic...the whole thread, that is...:S

apparently im a sheep, gay, an idiot but in reality i just wanted a high res/quality screen , the best apps/games , one of the best smartphone cameras and something that isn't massive , so i bought an iphone4.

ive never looked back and i most likely wont until someone actually does something thats worth having dual core for

Oh crap, why did you edit your post? Now we can't have a constructive criticism but have to play ping pong.

What is with all you Apple-hating and Apple-loving homophobes, last time I've checked, it's ok to be gay  :p

People don't forget that Android has lesser choice of apps, it's open source, doesn't allow for much profit because there are many alternatives to most popular apps, it's much younger and is aimed at a different customer base.

There was something about iPhone having a better screen... Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man. I prefer the Super AMOLED of my SGS, and SGS II is even better, to the iPhone 4, the resolution is lower because of the use of a different panel but I don't feel that a higher resolution is needed anyway.

There are Android phones with better cameras than the iPhone, I don't really get what you're trying to imply now.

So you bought an iPhone 4. I'm sorry that you feel like an idiotic homosexual sheep now.

PS how is it that my SGS with a fricking bulky Case Mate Tough is still lighter than the iPhone 4?

Don't be such a butthurt, vonhelmet, Linux users have been taking the **** out of Windows users and everyone is blatantly mocking Microsoft but caring so much about a brand is just as ridiculous as calling someone a fag for using specific hardware/software.

Consumer choices are a very emotive subject. The same thing happens with BMW vs. Audi vs. Mercedes drivers; each one supposedly attracts a certain type of driver. I think it's a fascinating reflection on 'the human condition', although I refuse to believe that people genuinely believe the stereotypes they're posting. I certainly don't.

but you paid 2x the price? and no the phone does not have the highest quality screen..

best camera? no way.. best apps/games - sort of true.. but only because apple has been around for long and android which i guess you are comparing it too is a lot "younger" ;) give it time and it will be similiar/better than iOS

and im not an iphone hater.. i do love the hardware quality and the stability of the OS but i guess im on the other end of the market and i love fiddling with my phone so much that an iphone or iOS is just too limited :)

each to their own i guess.. but you gotta agree iphones and other apple hardware is mostly bought by biased fanboys.. my step dad bough an iphone just because his mates said it was the "best" now the phone is in a wardrobe and gets used by my little brother once or twice a week :)

2x the price? Only on a (very bad) contract.

16GB iPhone 4 = £499, 16GB Galaxy S II £495...

Screen quality is subjective, the Retina display is easily as good as a SAMOLED+ screen, whether it is better depends on what you use the phone for mostly.

I'd wager that the majority of people who buy Apple products don't even know what a 'fanboy' is, yes there are a lot of very vocal Apple fanboys that are annoying, but there are also a lot of annoying Android fanboys. Same with cars, games consoles, graphics cards, processors...

Its not Apple's fault your stepdad buys things without doing any prior research is it?
