Purchasing Games...

I can generally see through the PR fluff prior to a games release, I can tell what's going to be good and what's going to be average, however I always wait for community/critic reaction, far cry 2 was the first and last time I ever get sucker punched.

i usually go by the reviews of Edge and Games tm along with youtube/gameplay vids and if as is most likely i'll not be buying day one. i'll see what users think of it after release.

i seldom pre-order now as i know for sure that it'll be a while before i get to play them (last pre-order was Crysis 2 and i aint played it yet) due to the increasing pile of unplayed games i have.

Gametrailers review
Youtube videos

Youtube videos are probably the biggest decider, gameplay, generic opinions, people messing about or even showing glitches. It all helps.

If it looks like it plays well from gameplay videos
Opinions of others on here
Or lately if it's a sequel I will consider it seen as there are so many being released now!

Don't bother with reviews anymore, some of them are complete tosh.

Reviews - metacritic, friends, social media
Genre - after playing a long rpg I might take a break and get stuck into a fps
Length - sometimes I want a game I can immerse myself in for a few months, sometimes I want something I can smash through in a week
Hype - will always check reviews but hype will probably spark the initial interest

I rarely buy a new game though. There are so many games I still want to play and complete that I'm happy to wait a few months for preowned.

My game purchases are easily decided in the following manner.

1. Multiplayer Games I know will get decent play time with my mates (usually bought day one).

2. Easy Achievement Games I can just plod through when I'm bored (your usual sale/pre-owned games)

I look at xboxachievements see how easy the game is, and buy if the achievement difficulty is under 4/10.

Edit I thought I'd logged in with my Wyrdo account, seems not.

I rent mostly, I've bought about 10 games from 150 played or something like that. I only buy and keep games I will play MP for longer than 3 months. If not I rent. I choose games based on seeing hype on here and then watching a few clips or videos. Rarely ever look at reviews anymore. Rarely download demos.

This is one thing I wish devs would do more! Hate not having a demo to try.

It almost always depends on the reviews, obviously you can tell by previews/screenshots/youtube as to whether or not a game interests you but the deciding factor is generally the review it gets (well the score at the end anyway)

There seems to have been a real lack of demos on XBL lately - I can't remember the last time one of the big games put up even a short demo.

I work in the games section of a blockbuster store, so I get to try most games just before they are released. On the odd occassion there is a game I want that we don't have for rent, I'll usually wait until its been out a couple of months & the price has dropped.

Don't really bother with reviews, I pay more attention to what my co-workers & regular customers say tbh

I go on previews first. If the game looks good then I keep my eye on it.
If the reviews then turn out ok i'll buy it.
