If anyone lives in Newcastle I'm sure you will know there is currently a huge fire in the Ouseburn area. Apparently it is the Shepherds scrap yard on fire. The plume of smoke can be seen absolutely miles away. People in walker have been told to keep all windows and doors shut.

Oh, and I live 100yards down the road from the fire. I wonder if I'll get past the cordon after work to get home.

I'm at Uni, the fire is mahoooooosive! Here's what I can see...

It must be massive. I knew it was a scrap yard but didn't know it was Shepherd's.

Ohh and I can see it from work in Ashbrooke, Sunderland.

expect Gazza on the scene shortly! just a quick stop off at Tesco for a chicken and a 4-pack

Some people are saying that there was an explosion

Managing director of the yard, Malcolm Ince, said there was more than 2,000 litres of explosive fuel kept close to the fire.
He said: “We think a small fire has smoldered in the scrap, we’ve been collecting it for about six or seven months, then it started smoking, then we just saw huge flames. I had to make the decision to evacuate the six workers.”

Doesn't look to dissimilar to the size of the one in North East London a few weeks ago.

I'd defiantly recommend closing windows though, as by night it really smelled off smoke in the air
