No Valve games at E3

Lost all hope for Valve. Half Life 1 still stays as my all time favorite, but If they don't show something on E3 or shortly after, im never buying their products again. Shows how they chose the money milking way instead of continuing their flagship game that made them famous in the first place. A big **** you from Valve here. Dissapointed.

your loss? :p

I did an LOL :D

You will buy it regardless, you know you will

Valve dont release unfinished crap like the likes of most publishers these days.

I'm willing to wait another 5 years as long as its going to be as good as I expect it to be

I think it is frustrating that Valve haven't said anything really - it does show a bit of disrespect to their fans, as they have allowed anticipation to become frustration - telling us its a trilogy overall, with 3 episodes after HL2 and then going silent after the 2nd episode for a very long time. Due to my disappointment with HL2 and my feelings regarding how Valve were treating its fans I have never played Ep1 or 2.

I loved HL1, though disappointed by HL2 in all honesty (if only the AI could have been better). However I am happy to wait for a finished product, just would like to know if we are all actually waiting or not.

I can't say I am that bothered, especially with Deus Ex 3, Battlefield 3 and Mass Effect 3 (must be something with the '3's ??? - sign of quality series, maybe) coming out over the next 3 to 9 months, there will be plenty of gaming goodness. If BF3 is as good as BF2, then that could be taking up my gaming time for many years to come.

Just my 2p worth...

Some people have this misconception that studios "owe" them a sequel. Check out the Elder Scrolls forum and see how many people are discontent with Bethesda's development ideas.

To be fair, in this situation thats rubbish.

People were TOLD by Valve that HL2 will have 3 episodes following it to finish the story/game. Its ONE game split into several parts, I bought ep 1, and ep 2 fully expecting to be able to FINISH THE GAME, because they TOLD US WE COULD.

They make HL1, and never make HL2, who cares, whatever, they make HL2, and never 3, who cares.

They say, we're releasing this ONE GAME in episodes, and it will be awesome, while also costing you a lot more than a single game but hopefully having more content, then they just don't release the final part, thats utterly different to what you're suggesting and yes, I'd be very dissappointed, not least because HL2 was massively inferior to HL1 and the episodic content , reusing content, rehashing, short and not particularly good either.

Ep 1/2/3 should have been out a year apart from each other, they should have been better, longer and cheaper.

Now I've been told, ep 1-2-3 are coming, they'll offer more content than one normal game, in a similar time frame, yay. Instead we paid x + y and now likely will pay another full game price for episode 3 renamed to HL3.

The issue is in, selling your episodic idea and an amount and splitting a story, then going back on that.

So far, price, with 3 eps it was heading to be more expensive than a single game, more content, they dramatically shortened the episodes so more content is questionable, and now, the 3rd episode is essentially missing in action. Its pretty simple Valve made claims about ep1-2-3 and have failed to forfill most of them.

If I knew a three part short story that would cost so much would have the third part delayed by 4 years, I wouldn't have bought ep 1 or 2, at the very least I wouldn't have bothered buying them on release.

I don't think so, so many games talk about all the idea's they want to put in in the dev/preview stage and we get all excited about hem only to find on release "sorry we had to remove that feature it just didn't work".

not telling us anything and letting us be surprised is much better than a constant "omg yay" "wtf no" cycle as ideas and features are brought in and dropped out during development.

wait you're annoyed that they haven't made a game as quick as they said and are thus stopping you buying it now when you call it "not particularly good".

why in gods name are you annoyed you can't buy a game you consider bad?

Well look at the words you used and I used, I didn't say bad.

I also didn't say I would buy it, I was replying to someone who was laughing that they thought they were OWED a magical sequel.

Try reading, the original post and my reply.

In no way is Episode 3 some fictional possible game people HOPE was being made. Episode 3 quite literally is owed to us, because Valve sold us Ep 1 on the basis that two more episodes would follow to complete essentially a "full game".

Would you buy Witcher 2 if they cut off the last 3rd, said it would be released as episodic content, and not be mad when 5 years later they hadn't released it?

The episodes are VERY short, they were sold to us individually but advertised as essentially a complete game brought in 3 parts, they've not done part 3.

Frankly Part 3 done on an old untweaked engine, would fit in with episodic content far better than 2 episodes, then one more 5 years later that looks completely different.

This ISN'T HL4, its not a game Valve have never mentioned and people wish was being made, Episode 3 is something Valve promised us YEARS ago.

I'm sorry i didn't bother to type out a small book just to paraphrase you.

They haven't said they're not making it though. and they never said a time frame, just "quicker".

Have they said if DOTA 2 will be free like LOL or payment like HON?

Can see it being massive if its free, lol is a lot more popular than hon I believe or I could be wrong.

A studio never "owes" a game to anybody, period. They do quite possibly have one of the most devoted fanbases of any industry, but they're still companies that need to make some decisions every now and then. Now, I'm by no means saying that Valve is in need of more money, I just think that Steam is much better a moneyspinner than a new Half-Life game, hence the intense focus on that.

I certainly didn't buy Ep1 as part of a 3 part episodic series, I bought it under its own merit.

I think you just have issues (need a tissue?) :D

As long as you have Alex by your side like in Ep1 & Ep2 and you're not all alone like in HL2 then i'll be happy. If the continue the story stright from Ep2 then it'll be most likely what will happen anyway.

Yeah, i have the thing for Alex :o
