**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

wow just played a game where a guy seemed to be all over me with burrowed roaches and kept sniping my collosus so I switched to double chronod robo immortal production with stalkers from gateways... Eventually he sniped my main nexus due to some careless observer placement and I managed to take out some of his roaches... Thinking I'm way behind, I just go for the kill with maybe 12 immortals and 12 stalkers and a few zealots against maybe 60 roaches... and WIN... Easily with still 1/2 my army left :o Immortals seriously are amazing against roaches... I definitely need to use them more against Roaching zergs

Yeah people forget that immortals have awesome DPS, but they need to be well backed up as when outnumbered by quick attacking units they still fall fast even with the 10 max damage. Also don't forget to always have an observer available for your army vs burrowed units!

been winning lot of my Z vs Z going ling -> baneling -> muta while other guy goes ling -> roach :P

Had pretty epic Z vs Z couple nights back, he went mass Hydra and i went ultra/ling/baneling and I easily won : )

im still getting drone/scv/probe rushed, cannon rushed, all time but am starting to get better at scouting cheese/ holding it off

1 protoss guy i beat, thought i was silver player i was that good lol!

Random musing:

Banelings vs protoss ROCK!
3/3 upgraded tanks hurt : (
Using nydus to transport expansion drones, sneaky sneaky
A lot of people will leave game when they see 10 broodlords hehe
If somone strikes a conversation (e.g. what's your favourtie colour, do you like lady gaga etc. etc.) at the start of game they are probably cheesing you.

:D

Yeah... a single immortal can kill a roach in 3 shots :) And can alone take out 4 roaches without dying... pretty impressive. They are expensive, but still the most cost efficient antiroach protoss land unit I think (except DTs without detection :p )... maybe behind collossus if collosus are heavily backed but Collosus are such a pain to maintain beyond a few minutes of use.

Almost finished the campaign! Then its onto some playing against the AI to figure out how to actually play on normal maps, and then the 50 practice games to discover how bad I am at the game!

My suggestion:

Complete the campaign, then play challenges, then custom games against AI, then Coop games. When your ready quick match and skip all the practice games (waste of time).

yeah the practice games have modfied maps where there normally large rock defending the entrance to your base,

just practice few builds vs ai,

best way to improve is play more games, so you get to see more playstyle/unit mixes/timing etc.

i think im on 2nd mission of the campaign lol, i went straight into multiplayer

Day 9 funday monday/ newbie tuesday are very informative/entertaining

Nah... I completely disagree. I played maybe 3 or so games against AI then probably a good 30 or so practise games then straight onto the battlenet ladder and started winning games very quickly... I won most games where I wasn't rushed, and so within a few games, I got used to it. (Walling in your choke point helps when you are new unless if you are Zerg) Practise games get you used to macroing and playing after the 8 minute mark, learning counters to units, keeping resources going - it's practically the same as real matches except you don't have to worry as much about early game scouting and rushing.

Agreed. I wouldve spent way more time in the practice league if there were 50 games available to practice when i first started in beta.

As it stood when I started I just trolled a bit with 200/200 pure colossus armies, 200/200 pure DT armies etc :p

But that's really the point of the practice league. It's to have fun. You get used to the game mechanics in a slower environment with no pressure to 'have to win' every game possible.

So yea, my advice would be to do the single player stuff, complete everything as much as you want to. Then if you feel like getting into multiplayer, get into the practice league, start playing games and start doing wierd and wacky stuff. See what works for you and most importantly enjoy playing :)

Once you feel like you want to, then you can start playing more competitively on the ladder at the faster game speed against ranked opponents.

Hi all,

My mate has just given me a 7 day free play key, and while I've only spent an hour playing I totally love this game :D

Only played Zerg so far (mate is Terran) and enjoying learning the variety.

Last RTS I played was Dawn of War, so perhaps a bit behind the times haha

Yay, played my first practice league match and won it! I was P v Z, just using a zealot/carrier army. He attacked me a couple of times while I was building it up and then quit. Oh well, a win's a win! And I need to work on my build order and macro, had far too many resources and wasn't spending them fast enough.

So many abusive idiots on here lately, you win it was pathetic luck, you lose they say lol noob. Shouldn't let it get to me but I find it really annoying :(

Someone accused me of a pathetic all in when I had 2 bases 50 drones and roaches upgraded to 3-3. He'd tried to bunker rush my expo, then later on it was him attacking me and I wiped out his army and followed back to his base. Which bit of it was all in is beyond me.

I get it all the time, most often from team mates though. They see the early expo as a noob tactic for some reason??? And if I just scrape through a rush once again I get "Zerg noob". Most of the time I end being the best player if it gets to 8/9 mins.

I wouldn't worry about it. They only do it because they have failed and obviously it's not their thought they lost, its obviously yours

Welcome to SC2 :D. If you like, there's generally a few people from here hanging around the OcUK chat channel. :)

Yea I get a lot of hate from terrible players. Gets funnier the further you go up. Once upon a time it was 'lol noob' or 'lol protoss/terran/zerg' or whatever. Nowadays I get spammed with hilarious hate for the most standard strategies. Best thing is when they actually come up with insults you've never heard before.

A couple weeks ago i got spammed something about hats and donkeys and asses and..various swearwords and insults(i assume?) interleaved over a number of messages.. Never laughed so hard at starcraft :D

Kicking ass in these practice games, I guess watching lots of Day9 really does help. Probes and pylons, people.

Obviously, there's two lays of destructible rocks between me and any enemy, making this not such a good idea of skill, but I'm slowly working on build orders before I go out into the big scary world. Currently my build is carriers and zealots. Gas goes into carriers, minerals into zealots. Upgrades with spare gas, and then stalkers.
And once I'm getting ready to attack, a mothership. Sneak it up to the enemy base with the carriers (Leave a few to defend against air if I don't have any stalkers yet), then just mass recall my army into their base. This keeps the army for defense if they do attack me, and by the time I'm in their base I don't need the defense, and I can warp more units in if I do need a sudden defense. But at this point the 3 people I've played against just quit.

The big step is how to deal with people attacking me early on.
