30 UK Police vs man armed with machete in the street.

I'm surprised they had so many officers not attending other things that they could deal with this. No wonder the clean up rate is so low.

lol

Cop at the end pepper sprayed himself I think.

It looked well handled by the first two sets of officers though.

Glad he wasn't shot (though I'd make the case that it would be utterly no loss to the world anyway) but seriously, why didn't they use a tazor? While the tactics they used worked, I would have expected them to call someone in with a tazer and just make him go down to ground with it. Safer for the police and dare I say a bit of justice delivered haha.

Then again tazers aren't 100% success rate and could put him into a frenzy. So maybe that is why.

I think I read on a police blog/site that they did use one, twice but as you say it's not filly effective (besides anything else, I think some clothing can interfere with it).

I think they did a great job in containing him, keeping the public safe, and then arresting him without anyone getting seriously hurt.
The police get a hell of a lot of usually pointless flack, but this shows the lengths they can/will go to in order to safely detain a serious threat when they are able to.

I hope the officers involved get a pat on the back for a job very well done.

From what the guys taking the video seem to be saying sounds like they tried non-lethal methods to take him down earlier on without being able to subdue him so fair play to them, not like you can easily tackle a worked up, fairly well built guy weilding a machete without considerable risk.

Its a good possibility he was high on something (given the way he was acting) i.e. PCP which meant tasering him, rubber bullets, etc. might not be effective either.

Crazy!! 30 officers. If it was another country the situation would have been dealt within minutes. Too much red tape in the UK police force.

What like beating up people or shooting them? I’d rather have our police than any other in the world. A job well done.

Shocking?? Tell you what next time why don't they send 5 or so and when they cant contain them and a Machete wielding lunatic runs into your house to escape them, you will be happy in the knowledge you wont have saved any tax money whatsoever as the other 15 or so were already on duty getting paid the same anyhow.

Only shocking thing about that video is the *****y camera work. We missed the good bit, thanks, ****! :(

Would have been shocking if we had gunned him down. UK police constitutionally unarmed 1 - nutjob army/police force idea 0

Even if they were armed they wouldn't have just killed him for waving a machete about.

First its a daft hag putting a cat in a bin, now its coppers trying to put a fat bloke in a bin, what ever will they think of next :p

This is why tazers are a good idea, he woulda been down without the use of lethal force and it wouldnt of required the entire countys police force. Overall though, whilst it took a lot of officers it was a job well handled.

An of duty officer shot dead a knife man earlyer in the year over here. In that vid they did the right thing, they knew help was on the way and just bidded their time. On the other hand if there was no help and they were armed officers, he would have been shot.
