Why is the cinema an irritating experience these days?

So went to the cinema this afternoon, to see a 15 rated film. Got a load of kids behind us who were being loud and wanted the whole cinema to know they were not old enough to see the film.

Through the adverts they were being loud, shouting to people sitting on the other side of the cinema despite being in the same group and generally being irritating. The film began and I turned around and asked if I can expect them to talk through the whole film. This shut them up for a while, but there was still the occasional talking, whispering and shrieking (it was a horror film) which was still distracting.

This seems to becoming all the more common when I go to the cinema. I can't work out if it's because the ID'ing has become relaxed or if kids/people generally think it's acceptable to talk during the films. Obviously you can't expect people to be totally silent as that's unreasonable, but it's extremely irritating and distracting.

Other than kicking off at them and causing a scene or grassing them up to the cinema staff (who let's face it will probably do very little), there are few options in a situation like this. Combined with the cost of going to the cinema and my experiences of late, it's becoming less appealing :(

Depends on your cinema and area I think, I haven't ever had any problems like that in either of the Norwich cinemas.

I haven't had such problems at the O2. We usually go after the film's been out for at least a week. Empty cinema for the win :)

Cinema staff will usually tell them to shut up or they'll get thrown out. Usually this works but the staff are not psychic and the screens are usually large. If they continue go out again. The kids will get thrown out. Job done.

Depends on your working pattern but basically avoid weekends and between around 4-9 through the week. Chav/kid magnet during that time. So many people who go there with the sole intention of acting up loudly infront of their mates. I would throw my shoes at them but I like my shoes.

If you go not long after release date then this seems normal. Wait a few weeks and it's better.
Or just go and complain about them.

You just need to pick the right time and day to watch whichever film it is you want to see. I've never had any problems unless I go at a time that will blatantly be filled with kids/****** etc.

Heh I had worse, I had a skittles fight with an old man in front of me in IMAX. he started to throw skittles behind him which ended up on me, so I threw some back, then it kinda went more frantic lol. I ended up throwing half a pack of skittles at him all at once - it was the skittles big share bag. It was funny because he just made a big groan like "uhhhh!".

Sexual gratification from being hit with skittles? Congratulations on pleasing a pervert.
