Asus Maximus IV Extreme Memory

You're better off making an 8Gb set up of 2 x 4Gb no matter what.

Making up 8Gb using 4 x 2Gb sets isn't the best option as it limits your clocking capabilities and also limits your memory upgrades in the future. So i would rule out the 2 kits of OCZ all together...

There's nothing wrong with the Kingston but, personally, i would direct you towards the XMS3 - link - it's been tried and tested in counltess systems across the forums and is 'usually' capable of running at 1.5V which is a bonus with a sandybridge setup - especially when overclocking.

Plec,

Do you know if that's tried and tested in a Asus MIVE?
I only ask because it's not on the ASUS QVL and I'm also looking for memory for this board.

Thanks,
KB.

I've never managed to buy memory on a MB's QVL list (from its release) - i've always bought the memory that seems to have a proven track record by other users on the forums -or a set that that seems to readily accomodate most MBs.

XMS3 is fantastically slutty (i mean Madonna proportions) and seems to have no issues with any of the brands/boards on the forums. Memory compatibilty problems aren't as prevelent as they used to be - thankfully.

I can’t definitively confirm that it will work in the Asus Maximus IV but I have seen sigs which mention XMS3 installed in said board - so there's proof that it works in some.

The XMS3 is Corsair’s staple memory set – and it sits happily enough in all other Asus flavour MBs so I would be confident (as I can be) that there wouldn’t be a problem in the Asus Maximus IV.

It’s a rare event that quality memory wont work in a MB – and even if there’s problems it’s usually only a BIOS update away from not being a problem.

If you want absolute confirmation, for peace of mind, try post in the OcUK Pre-Sales Queries Forum - link - posing the same question - they will be able to give you a definitive answer.

I have XMS3 memory on my board the 8Gb set and that not on the QVL either and its
brilliant memory would not change it for anything. Just put it in and it works.

Would definitely recommend getting this memory if your thinking about getting any.

What about 4 X 4Gig XMS3 ? Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB)

But thanks for all the advice folks.

If you're only using your rig for gaming and light apps use then 4GB is all you really need.

But, memory is so cheap that if you have the funds then getting 8GB (2 x 4GB) does make sense as a few games are starting to utilise more than 4GB.

However, unless you need a VM (which 8GB would be able to service) or use C.A.D. at an advanced level etc - there is no point in getting 16GB of memory.

Basically, 2 x 4GB is your best option if you want 8GB.

Have to say most of the time i am just gaming (when i can get on)
But i do use VM now and again for testing but if i am going to fire in a 6990 may as well spend the money and get ram lol

Sounds like a monster build - 8GB certainly wont look out of place.

Bump this thread when you're about to order/ordered - i'll be interested to know your complete spec.

Are you getting a new case, monitor etc too?

Hi there,
Yeah its going to be a sweet rig,
Also my last toy for a long long time,

Case i got was Antec DF-85 but going to get another one as mobo will not fit that,

At this point not sure what case i like more,

Lian Li PC-A77FB
Corsair Obsidian 800D

Screen is going to be Benq XL2410T 24" TRUE 120Hz 3D

Not going to use 3D but like the 120Hz

Corsair Obsidian 800D

I'm a big fan of both those cases, simple lines, my personal favourite is the 800D - great looking case which oozes quality.

Do you plan on water cooling as you'll certainly have the case to accomodate a custom water setup?

I hope you plan on doing a build log as it looks like an interesting overall spec...

Greetings,

Not sure about watercooling as i would not use the system that much,
I will be getting at least a H70 but like the look of the new H100

build i will have to see what i can do,

Dont wait around for me getting the parts each and every month some thing else pops up to stop me ordering it ffs:rolleyes:

But sure no big rush as long as its all ready to go for Battlefield3 :D

Greetings folks,

Just ordered the parts,
Just as well was getting sick of waiting lol,

Went for thew 800D case after all.
