:eek: Just noticed mine expired last year, only had this photo id since 07 when I got bike licence added. from a Quick google apparantly you need to update it every 10 years..or you may have to take a re-test.

could have sworne when I first passed it said valid until 2047 or something, just hope I dont have any problems renewing.

Heads up anyway
 
Given the DVLA send you a letter a full month before it expires including all the forms you need, although its annoying there isn't much of an excuse.

Your paper part could be valid until 2047, but the photo card expires every 10 years. £1000 fine aswell :)
 
Think you have 2 years from the photo license expiring to renew it before you have to retake your test, it is however not legal to drive until you have renewed it.

In theory, I had mine through the post on time, my sister never got one and its only because I brought it up when my letter came that she noticed hers was about to expire (we took our tests within a week of each other).

Most people who 'never got one' simply get one and lose it or forget about it. It's easier to blame the system.

Of course, the postal system in this country is infallible.

I totally haven't had 3 things sent/received this year that have gone missing, despite being sent recorded.

But its just me right?

You're hanging on to your grandpa license because you're afraid of a 10 year renewal for photo ID? :D

I got mine 2 months ago, had a moan at the cost of printing a photo on a card and moved on with life :p

how did yours expire last year when you only got it in 2007 ?

surely that means it doesnt expire till 2017

or have i missed something ? :p
 
I think if your license gets updated but not the photo itself it doesn't reset the counter. I would assume the photo id was updated with the bike details but the original photo wasn't updated.

If that makes any sense.

ah so even though he updated his photo in 2007, it still expired in '11 - 10 years after he first got it. Gotcha

the idea is to keep the photo up to date. You change a lot over 10 years. I can see why in that instance they didn't extend it if you just updated your address.
 
I'll risk defending the DVLA on this one.

It seems totally appropriate that a photocard license should be updated. I looked nothing like I did 10 years ago when I passed my test.

I recently went through this just after a passport renewal. Result of this? I could do everything online, including taking the picture from my new passport. I believe if you have had a new passport issued in the last 2 years this also applies.

Great system in that regard.

What puzzles me about all this is they insist we heve new photocards & that truck drivers have new photo-tachograph driver cards, yet they don't update the photo! :confused:

I say this as I have just renewed my Driver Card, which is for use in my trucks tachograph.

The new card expires in 2016 yet has the same photo that was issued with my first card back in 2006.....

Not afraid of anything - just resent having to PAY for something I already paid for back when I passed my test. And then would have to subsequently pay again every 10 years, and you know the price is just going to go up and up.

They've changed the rules without my permission, and for a reason I don't agree with.
