I've done it, put deposit down on a car finally! - Yaris

Picking it up on Saturday.

As for why the dials are in the middle...erm, apart from a design aesthetic perspective, it opens up another storage space behind the wheel. That is also a compartment for storing things.

What exactly do people plan to store in these 'bins'.

- I leave my glovebox free so i can chill drinks.
- All the tools and stuff which come with the car are tucked in the boot.
- The manuals are in it's own storage space.
- Keys and change under the armrest.
- Emergency hat in the drivers doorbin.

Why exactly do i fill these additional 26million storage bins with, Werthers Originals?

CDs, sunglasses, Ipods, food, empty wrappers, flowers (in a small vase too!), newspapers, maps....

Not sure I'd want anything stored in front of the wheel though, should you have an accident the last thing you want is that compartment opening and things flying into your face. :o

I actually like the the dials in the center of the dash. It got some getting used to but quite fun to look at.

Need Vitz 1.5 RS Turbo. :D

Wouldn't all that fit into a 'normal' sized glovebox? More than enough room for those without built-in satnav to store that away and a few other odds n ends.

I've driven several cars with offset dials and i'm not a fan, it makes the dash look very deep and doesn't really improve your view of the road, stupid design imho.

I guess but it's an additional 'feature' that no doubt is used as a selling point...

I do agree that it's pointless and not very safe to be honest.

Also agree on the centre dial location, it's completely unnatural I don't know of any other machines where key data is supplied to the operator in a weird place.

... snip...

By getting the Yaris, I get the option of keeping it, and run 2 cars that is on the opposite end of the spectrum. Which do makes sense and that option is avaliable to me should I choose it.

p.s. right from day one I made the decision that I will not ever be buying a French car. It's a personal thing, it goes way back. So no Clio (sorry Clio lovers here!), I don't care if you give me one for free, I will sell it on the same day and take the money instead.

No French Cars. Ever.

The same applies to Vaushall.

I totally get this, and it was exactly my thinking when at 21 I had an accident which meant I would have to insure something cheap for a few years. At the time I bought a Corsa c 1.4, not everybody’s cup of tea ill agree but having owned it for 5 years, running other bigger engine cars alongside for the last 4 - I understand your way of thinking. I plan to run the Corsa into the ground. I paid about 9k for and book price was £11995. So by my reckoning if it gives me another 4 years of trouble free motoring, that’s a reliable decent little car for 9 years at 1k a year. If it gives me more than that then happy days.

btw I hope you have the same luck as me, granted I bought new but now 2 years out of warranty the only things my little car has needed are 1 set of tyres at the front and its yearly service at something like £100 a time. It averages well over 40mpg and has literally never let me down, about a month back (could have been less, I can’t remember) the roof broke on my boxster half way through putting it down. It was great to be able to put the boxster in the garage and jump in the little run around for a few days while I get the part to fix it, it just makes life less stressful.

I quite like the little yaris, seems a decent engine and trim level and the keyless is great... with my astra twintop I just used to put the key in my pocket and forget about it. walk up to the car and it opens but not until you touch the car, walk literally a foot away and have somebody else open the car and it’s a no go - that always amazed me. The car also had button start so no keys dangling out of the dash. I do miss some of the gadgets but can't say I miss the car all that much. Anyway I’ve gone well off track, but yea - good purchase I recon.

Stand back and admire the 7 thousand new scratches

Last time I lazily went through one of the immigrant car washes they used all the right techniques, detailing world would be proud!

Although not entirely sure on the paint stripper stuff they used to get all the tree sap and fly splats off after my long trip across europe, surprised I've got any paint left!

It's home!!!!

Drove it back from Cardiff, it can happily cruiser at 70mph on the motorway at just under 3,000rpm. It corners really well, it's quite quick off the block. Love Climate Control and the little touches like where you can choose the air circulate.

Happy days!

p.s. yes I named it Veronica :p
