Which system?

I had a spec check thread not too long ago but I have another decision to make now.

Which one of these systems do you think I should get?

The NVIDIA (3D 120Hz) route:

And the AMD (IPS panel) route:

So which one do you think?

Well from what I can see they are pretty much the same apart from the Gfx Card and
the monitor that you have selected. It would say its pretty much upto what you prefer.

I would go for the ATI route but thats just because I prefer ATI over Nvidia.

It depends if you want 3D or a better quality 2D monitor.

Buy the 480 SOC at your own risk.

Hmm good point, looks like ill get the 570, which is actually cheaper. Would that be a better option?

Dont know about you Surveyor but I would prefer a really good 2D monitor and the ATI
card instead of having the 480, especially with its problems?

Plus the smoothness of the 120Hz is tempting, I do plan on gaming a fair bit. As well as recording at the same time using Fraps.

That's only useful if you're getting more than 60FPS.

60FPS on a 60Hz monitor is 60FPS.

60FPS on a 120Hz monitor is still 60FPS.

I would go IPS because I have one and it's pro.

I would go NVIDIA because I have ATI and it's a nightmare.

There's always someone who has problems with whichever make they have.

I've had Crossfired ATI cards for a few years now and never had any problems.

But there are others who do.

Ive had both and to be fair I think both are brilliant. I just went with the 480 because I had seen it in action at a friends house and tht was the kind of performance I was after

Suppose it's a bit hit and miss, I've decided to got for the 570 and the Dell Ultra sharp.

But now I've seen the price of a z68 mobo and wondering if I should get this z68 instead of this p67?

I would go with the Intel/Nvidia setup. The specs on both are very similar but i'm more of a fan of Intel and Nvidia.

It depends if you want the Z68 features and are happy with a Micro ATX board.

Z68:

1. LucidLogix Virtu (universal switchable graphics/GPU virtualisation)
2. Intel Quick Sync Video Technology (Way faster media transcoding than what only CPU or only discrete graphics card has to offer) if the software supports it
3. Intel Smart Response Technology (SSD caching- faster performance of SSD + large storage capacity of a regular HDD)

Personally i'd go for the Nvidia 3D option. I just built a friend of mine a new PC and he has a 3D monitor with Nvidia 3D vision and its amazing. I've seen 3D in the cinema's and thought it was cool, this is another level, i want to go 3D myself asap.

Swapping to the 570 is a good idea too.

I'd also suggest dropping down to 4GB of ram (if your focus is gaming you dont need 8GB) and using that extra cash for the MSI GD53 or GD65 motherboard. That board gives you the option of SLI for the future (3D is very GPU intensive!) and is much better for overclocking which you'd be a fool not to do with a 2500k

Ewwww Micro? That can't be good for my e-peen. Looks like its the P67 for me then.

I really don't think I'll use the extra features of a z68 mobo, although integrated graphics may be good for trouble shooting.

Also I think I'll get the Dell monitor now and then upgrade with another monitor later, with some 3D spectacles!
