Battlefield 3 Question.

you should get max @60fps easy, the 12 min trailer was run on a single 580 @60fps(even higher assuming they use vsync, so quite a bit higher i'd assume to stop massive drops for the trailer)

Very hard to say at the minute. You cant really use bfbc2 as a comparison either, as bf3 will be using a newer version of the frostbite engine. Apparently the videos of the game doing the rounds at the minute, are being run on a single gtx 580.

Its a bit academic anyhow, GTX470 SLI is gonna run it about as well as anything else out at the moment except maybe 3Gig GTX580 SLI, so if it doesn't run it well theres not exactly many other options.

I have seen that posted around as well. Is there anywhere that says what CPU and how much memory they were using ?

It's not often games companies release software that can bring £400 worth of hardware to it's knees. It's usually due to poor optimization when it happens.

It's also a case of knowing what your rig can handle and what settings are best for your system.

The only setting(s) in any game which has ever caused me trouble is when using 4xAA or DOF in Metro - that's it - and both those settings suck anyway!

Obviously hard to say at the moment, but you'd of thought that it'd make financial sense to aim for the game to run almost maxxed out with smooth frames at the mid range of the market.

OP, your setup should be more than fine.

This. You will need to wait for a closer time to ask this unfortunately, but based on the fact that it will be optimized for the PC (For once) It should be ok.

Does anybody have a guess at what preice the 580 will be around the time of BF£ coming out? I have just built a 2500k build and am waiting to get the best possible card for 200-250 to run BF3 at or as close to max settings

Any onecan guess it just won't mean anything

Its going to depend on what cards are released in the interim as right now there's nothing forcing the 580's price point

Thanks, was hoping there was somthing on the horizon that would be better for cheaper or would force the price down. I have the money burning a hole in my pocket but done want to pull the trigger untill close to BF3 release to ensure I get the best possible card for my budget. :p

I am very confident that my 5870 will max bf3 out with no problems, just a cpu upgrade for me should do the trick;)

Ohhh I hope so! ( I wont be dissapointed if it doesnt.... I wouldnt be suprised if it cant...)

Iv been thinking of a cpu/mobo/ram/ssd upgrade my self (£500)

But I dont know if it would get any more performance out of my 5870.....

I too was thinking about BF3. BC2 like processor power, so Im going to assume that BF3 will be the same.

But in that case, its worth waiting for BF3 to come out and taking a look at the new Intel chips out at the end of the year.
