These are both on offer on steam at the moment for under 7 quid each.

Concensus from reviews seems to be that the original, whilst very pretty, is quite shallow/repetetive in gameplay terms.
The second seems to have those gameplay issues sorted from what I can gather.

Is the original worth bothering with?

Oh, and the always-online DRM requirement which was originally present in these games; has this been dropped/modified in-line with the implementation in the new Brotherhood game?

Cheers.

I have been playing through AC2 recently and enjoying it, so I would say it is worth the steam price.

I think the always on drm was removed.

I have just ordered AC1, but I have ordered the boxed retail version. Only £3 delivered! A quick google should find it. At more than double that I don't think the steam sale price is great. Someone said that they have raised the rrp on steam before the sale.

Both games are brilliant. The first is a tad repetitive but has a very good story otherwise. AC2 is a massive leap from the first and even better in every area.

Hah! Seems I've missed the offer anyway; just finished a couple of mins ago.
'Thinking too precisely on the moment' or something ...

Oh well :)

The 2nd one uses the always on DRM and it's a pretty bad port... horrible performance on my rig. Good game so far though...

1st game is the best. 2nd is very boring both are like most modern games they suffer from repetitive gameplay. 1st game looks ok 2nd looks like a PS2 game in a places............

lol your kidding right,AC2 and brotherhood are the best in the series, did you finish AC2.

The first one was very average at best,it was AC2 and brotherhood that raised the par

I'd definately skip the first one, second one if good and brotherhood improves on that even more (except for combat imo, AC2 combat felt more satisfying to me).

Doesn't really tie in? What are you on? Did you skip the game before the game actually started or something?

I'm on a cocktail of crack cocain, heroin and a bowl of sugar puffs, you can totally skip the first when high on this combination and you just wont care because you'll be so out of your face nothing matters

You can easily skip the first, its not even the same character, the only thing that ties in is the animus and present time characters, if AC 1 didnt exist and AC 2 was AC 1 you wouldnt even know it, seeing as though AC 1 was crap I would totally right it off

Interesting. I've bought AC2 but not played it yet. I suppose they summarise AC1 at the start? Because there was a fair amount of plot and character introduction in there..

Haha, winning.

Well, without giving to many spoilers, it kinda gives the backstory to the whole timeline. The apple of Eden, the Templars, the Animus, and the present time things. If I had played AC2 first, I probably wouldn't care about the story/characters as much as I do having played AC1 first.

Mind you, if you can get along with AC2 first, then fine, but I'd always suggest playing the first one to get into the story.

I see what you mean and you are right in the things you've mentioned but i'd still write it off, I didnt even finish it and because I played all three so far apart I struggled to keep up with the story between 1 and 2 anyway where as in 2 I found the story interesting and wanting to keep up with it, same with 3
