Old Rap and Hip hop thread!

I'm more into old school myself 1979-1986 but I'll try and put some trax up you might not have heard.

I do run a nice blog if you want to check some oldschool electro & hip hop do a search for bustthefacts.

My own uploads to youtube...not uploaded anything in a long time might start again

Chuck D has got to have the best voice/style of rapping ever. Love the rawness.
Track is taken from the CB4 sound track, a great rap parody from 92.

there has been some real poo posted in here, run dmc, vanilla ice, the sugarhill gang? please lol

Even the early west coast stuff imo isnt that good, NWA were good, Ice Cube was good (he wrote most of nwa's stuff, and his solo albums were great) The Chronic was good too (Dr Dre). But lyrically they were average, they were just fun to listen too. Also check out Doggystyle by Snoop dogg, Gin and Juice was brilliant :)

2pac was legendary i agree, but im pretty certain he didnt write his own stuff a lot of the time. He left behind a huge legacy and recorded so many songs, i think theres still a few hundread not heard/released yet. So you cant miss him.

The mid 90's to late 90's New York stuff was where hip hop peaked, Nas Illmatic best hip hop album ever made, It was written was also highly underated. There is literally not one bad song on Illmatic, my favourites though are It aint hard to tell, and Memory Lane (and Half Time, and NY state of mind, and Represent :p)

Big L Best US hip hop lyricist ever (there are a few underground UK artists with better lyrics imo), what he came out with was crazy, his freestyles were incredible, RIP, he died before he reached any fame, and is seriously underated/unheard of in the general public.

, Wu-tang and the members solo albums (check out Rakweon-only built for a cuban linx, ghostface killahs albums were good too).

Also no one has suggested Mobb Deep's early work, The Infamous was a legendary album. Theres plenty more:

Kool G Rap
A Tribe Called Quest
Gangstarr
The Roots
Redmans first two albums
Notorious BIG - ready to die was brilliant.
Killah Priest
Dead Prez
RZA

Ill post some links in later when ive got time.

Yep I agree with you. The best music released was from mid to late 90s. I'm not too fond of 80s rap music which a lot of posters here seem to like.
The Infamous is also one of my favourite albums of all time. No one probably mentioned them because a huge thread like this was done before a while back.

It all depends on your age and what era of electro/hip hop music you grew up with...for you to say the best time was the early 90's is wrong its about personal taste ...to me I grew up from when it began and hip hop died around 97 for me.

I like the old 79/82 early disco rap treacherous three,Jazzy 4 MC's,Spoonin Gee. Then came newclues, mixmaster gee, captain rock and so on 83/86 probably the best years for me. 87/89 were also excellent years the birth of public enemy, kool g rap & polo, stetsasonic,Eric B & Rakim (my favourite rapper), there was many other crews most of you wont even know because they weren't as commercially known as the latter. 1990/97 was ok but not to clever way too much gangsta rap after 97 I just cant be bothered.

Like I said above if you want to hear some oldschool from 1979 - 1997 then do a search for bustthefacts, I have actually just shared quite a lot of shows from Mike Allen on there.

check some diamond d ;)

prefer the old stuff myself but i have collected stuff to do with hip hop electro for 25 years.

think the thing is as you grow up you start to listen to it more . cant remember who said this but it is very true.

i used to prefer lyricists but now i mess around with beats i look to a different side.

naz album ok best ever plssssss

Yeah i agree its all about personal taste :) Sorry if i came accross as trying to tell people what to listen too.

Personally I'm loving instrumental hiphop at the moment, especially stuff made by Thes One and people under the stairs. Also listening to some time machine.

Thes ones album called 'Lifestyle Marketing' is amazing imo. Its made from some 50's advertisement concept album. Could listen to that stuff all day.

Edit: That Big L tune!! awesome!
