Spec me a notifier program

My Google skills are failing me.

I am looking for a program that would start up with windows and sit in the sys tray. I want to be able to input important dates like MOT due date, birthdays, hospital appointments etc. Then on specified dates set the program would pop up a window to remind me. Is there such a program?

And OP, why standalone, why not something like Google Calendar or Windows Live Calendar?
