Demons Souls Euro Release

i had to pick this up again the other day, completed it when it first came out and its been my top game this generation

Yeah, i'm playing throught it atm & it's incredibly frustrating (at first :p) & addictive all at the same time :D Great gameplay & a great structure which forces you to learn how to deal with a situation.

I tried really hard to enjoy this game but it just does my head in, I cant seem to see the appeal that everyone else has for this game, can someone enlighten me? I been thinking about trying again but with the downtime recently obv not bothered.

Jumped back on last night to finish the remaining bosses in my newgame+ and remembered to do the ending correctly this time for the trophy, might have been a mistake as it made me remember why i was hooked in the first place and got an itching to try going for the platinum trophy.

SPOILER ALERT:

Started playing this last night - within 10 minutes some fatty demon thing with a massive axe tore me a new a-hole, and now I'm in death land... presumably this is normal??

Cheers,

Su

Yeah this is pretty much meant to happen, you can actually beat it, video's on youtube, but generally I would be seriously impressed if anyone had jumped into Demon Souls for the first time without watching videos, reading guides and managed to defeat him.

If you do beat him I believe you definitely get killed about 30 seconds further on anyway :)

Ooops, been directed here...

I am a total school boy with this! Ordered this morning from the green forest.

Now, I am a HUGE RPG fan, only had a PS3 for a few days now, normally use a 360 or PC....

SO! Tell me, how does the class system work? How does the skill system work? Items, ect ect...

Tell me the awsome RPG details (spare the nitty gritty story stuff).

awesome game - i had to start all over again because my old saves were on my old (ergo broke) ps3 (couldnt backup demons souls for some reason).

My toughest opponent to date is a chap called Lord Rydell. in black phantom form....great maker hes tougher than Scvir! :(
(playing offline means all start at pure black wt)

If im unable to get my body back from there (bottom of stairs 3-1 where Freke and some other monster is)...gonna lose quite a few souls!!

Yes you can play a level with a friend but its tricky. You cant specifically invite him using smt like PSN. Just have to arrange between you where the sigil is put and at exact time even then might not work you both have to be around the same level.

Oh god it is fun!

I LOVE it, I only played a couple of hours last night, but played a thief, got that soul ring so far, need to get the thief ring tonight.

ANYWAY! I am well confused though, I got so far last night in the first 'area', and died (again), so just turned off the PS3 as it was creeping past midnight. Will my soul be there when I get back tonight?

Also, I am beyond confused, the game has suddenly just chucked me out there, no more tutorials on how to spend souls or upgrade skills ect ect... Nothing, I went into the nexus then I simply read a couple of player messages and then went into the portal on your right.

Finding it easy aside from if you have your guard down for a second and you get jumped... Game over, also, at default brightness the game is VERY dark.

Is it me or is it meant to be to the point of darkness that you can't see anything infront of you in hallways other than what you light up?

Yeah, you should just be taken back to the start of each level when you die. Every time that you kill a big demon (like Phalanx) an Archstone will be placed where they died. So in the event of you progressing past that boss, and then dieing, that'll be your start point, instead of being back at the beginning.

You can also warp to that point from the Nexus.

Haha, I felt the same when I started! I only got the game recently also, and I had no idea what I was doing. I think it's actually pretty cool that you're chucked in with no idea what to do. It kinda fits with the story.

The game wouldn't feel the same if you could always see the darkest spots. It'd ruin that feeling you get when you suddenly hear a noise behind you, catching a glimpse of that guy you just ran past, resulting in you running away like a little girl!

Ah, I see, so the dieing is part of the game basically? lol. Good times!

Well, yea, but still, what to do with my souls?!!? I don't mind working out for my self but a little hint would be nice! pleaseeeeeee lol

Must admit, that happened a few times, shield up slowly walking through a corridor then suddenly hearing a grunt then spinning around to see some dude lunging toward me! Awsome atmosphere creation.

Well, in theory, no. But I'm pretty sure it's inevitable! :D

They're your currency. With your souls you'll be able to: purchase upgrades for your weapons (along with certain shards/chunks/etc of stone) increase your character's stats, and buy magical spells and miracles.

You can do a few of these things within the Nexus, you just have to search a little for the NPCs.

agnes, do you have EU or US version of the game?

I have US and haven't played for a while, might get back into it over summer because it is incredible. I completed a couple of levels and got up to Flamelurker before I stopped.

I think the difficulty is perfect. You have to play smart, or you lose everything.

Also, I don't know if anyone has already posted this, but this was a post on reddit about DS:

Demon’s Souls is a game that will make you into a man. A scrawny fourteen-year-old, after two hours with this game, will be grooming his muttonchops and ready to ship off on the next boat to fight the Kaiser. If you are already a man, it will make you into some sort of bizarre double-man. What’s that you say? You’re a woman? You don’t want to be a man? Too bad. Too bad. That’s the Demon’s Souls way.

You’ve probably heard that Demon’s Souls is hard. Pshh. Lots of games are hard. Some are even harder than this one. The difficulty is not the point. What sets Demon's Souls apart is the way that it doesn't just kill you, but also stomps on your genitals when you’re down. And it will make you realize that that’s what you needed all along.

It’s a lot like life. Sometimes in life you win, and sometimes the giant armored skeleton stabs your face off because the flying mantis monster you didn’t even see shot you in the back with a spike at just the wrong time. And when that happens in life, do you respawn at the same spot and carry on like nothing happened? NO, *******. You go back to the beginning of the level, leaving all your hard-earned souls out there on the pavement, and you fight your way back. And you learn a lesson from the whole thing, because you should have been wearing your Thief’s Ring, now shouldn’t you? That’s life.

The trend in hard games these days is to unlock “Easy” mode for you once you’ve died enough times. Do you think Demon’s Souls does that? Do you think Demon’s Souls is so much as aware of the concept of “Easy” mode? NO IT IS NOT. If Demon’s Souls even knew we were talking about “Easy” mode, it would come over here and kick the **** out of all of us. And we would deserve it.

I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because **** you is why.

Have I told you about the online elements? At any time when you’re in Body form, another player from anywhere else in the world can invade your game and murder you to regain his own body, or just to keep you on your toes. This happens when you’re in the middle of fighting armies of unthinkable monsters that are probably already three-quarters of the way towards killing you. And no, you cannot opt out of this feature! This is what you signed up for when you agreed to be a man.

When this happened to me -- when a guy strolled into my game like it was Taco Bell and exploded my torso, costing me my body and all my progress in the level -- was I mad? No, because I was too busy being in awe at how ******* hardcore the experience was.

Now, don’t let this dissuade you. Demon’s Souls is a pitiless master, but let it never be said that it is not fair. The game rewards handsomely those who stand up to it, and the greater the challenge, the greater the glory.

What the hell are you waiting for?

Are the EU servers for this still up? Been a while since I last played. Can't even remember what build I was making hmmm. Might fire this up tonight and see If I can pick up where I left off with my char.

Yup I still play pretty regularly. Amazing game with a wealth of replay value!

Well, last night I started a new game and chose the Royalty class, 1-1 was easy as pie! Blitzed through it, killed the boss, job done. Didn't die once! (well, die again after the start tutorial area).

Now, I spent my souls leveling up and put my vitality from 8 - 16, and my INT from 12-14 and finally my Strength from 9-12.

Ultimatly I would like to be a melee class but at the moment I am still keeping in the magic side of things to help me through the first few areas. Grabbed the flame spell as well, as those blob things are weak to it and 1-2 seems to be full of them.

Hey folks, got this game the other day and loving it so far. Just afew questions.

I've found this character build which I think I'll aim for, is it ok?

http://demonssouls.wikidot.com/character-builds:26

Secondly do people do each area in order? I don't seem to be finding any armour upgrades or anything at the moment going through the levels in order.

It's a good build for PvP but can be a little difficult in single player at first.

Personally, as someone that focussed mainly on PvE, whether that be as a blue phantom or as a human, i found the blueblood sword the best weapon to go for.

I didn't go through the levels in order. Typically you'll find that the first level of each 'zone' is easiest (1-1, 2-1, 3-1, etc.) with each level of each zone getting harder.
