I am currently in the market for a graphics card. I really want to wait for the 580 to come down to under £275 but i really have the itch so not sure I can wait that long.

So the questions are
Which is the better card from the 570 and the 6970 for 1920x1080? Especially with BF3 in mind

Also how much of an improvement is the 580 on both and should I wait?

How long is a piece of string?
I'd choose a gigabyte 480 as it'll overclock higher to 580 speeds.
You'd be pretty happy with either, the 6970's 2GB vram would entice me if it is purely between the 570 and 6970.
Does AMD's eyefinity tech interest you? Or NVIDIA's 3d vision?

Best off waiting really, but the upgrade bug is pretty tough to scratch :)

Ive not many good things about the 480 in terms of noise heat etc. To be honest I have not heard anything diffrent about the 6970 but to be honest I would lean towards the 6970 because of the 2gb vram.

Not really interested in 3d and haven't got the room for eyefinity. (computer in a small room)

Thanks for advice, and you are sure right about that itch :D

You could save some cash and grab a 6950 for some flashing.

MSI ATI Radeon HD 6950 2048MB > £209.99

not too keen on the flashing option to be honest.
For keeping £60 in your pocket, you should be very keen!;)

It is so easy and safe due to the dual bios switch you simply cannot brick the card by flashing it(OC will honor the warranty too)!

It takes about 2 minutes and If you use wizards batch file method from TPU, it can be done in about 5 clicks of the mouse. Revision 1 cards only.

i thought all the 6950's now that ocuk have are rev2 and will not flash/unlock ?

Predicament already pointed 1 flashable 6950 in stock now.

be sure which version you have but saying that a lot of people have bricked their cards (google search) , rev1 cards have a black pcb do they not ?

Due to:
Flashing non ref cards.
Force flashing the 2nd read only bios.
Flashing non ref cards with no bios switch.

As long as it's a revision 1 2Gb 6950 and you don't force flash the read only bios, then you can't brick it.

I would go for the 480. My 480 was cooler and quieter than my 6970 if that's the issue.

If you are okay with flashing then I would probs go with the 6950
