2k reliable car for motorway commute

Given petrol prices aren't coming down any time soon, I would recommend getting a fuel efficient diesel. The missus and I are in a similar predicament now.

For 40 miles day? Probably not worth it when you cost it all out fully.

Found a nice Yaris and rang admiral to find out insurance quotes.
£2.4k up front
£3.4k over 12 months

Madness! We arnt blessed with a great postcode close to bootle but the area is very nice!
We tried admiral as they were open and always come out as the cheapest online. Intrestingly a 1.3 03 Yaris and a 1.0 Yaris 03 cost the same for insurance. I'll be happier with her driving a 1.3.

Consider a micra most in here will stoner for even suggesting it but cheap to run/insure mega reliable and tbh there not actually bad cars for what they are should get something decent in you budget too

Can you please explain that? I don't understand how a car with better fuel consumption won't work out cheaper in the long run.

There are plenty of calculators out there to show the difference in petrol v diesel costs over all. Quite a few here on this forum (someone made a spreadsheet) too. Take a look and see :)

Insurance in L22 is always going to hurt. I Live in L3 and Park behind security gates and the price of insurance is enough to make a grown man cry.

Here we go. 23 year old newly passed female, L22 postcode, Focus 1.6. A 10 month policy is 5% more expensive per month, but with some NCB and being an older female she will quickly have insurance rates dropping through the floor. Using the same details a 1.3 Yaris comes out as £1389.23.

Because you tend to have to pay more for them (Or accept an older car for the same money, in which case the less fuel efficient car of the same age would give you a pile of change).

For a reliable car for motorway cruising at 2k I'd look no further than a mondeo. Good solid car that soaks up the miles with reasonable comfort.

2 additional drivers of what standard and history? It's not completely comparable is it.

No but it demonstrates what the OP should do - add both parents. Providing one of them doesnt have a drink drive ban and the other isn't a BBC News presenter it isn't going to be hugely different and will have a good effect.

Two 50 year old females with perfect history. I am fairly sure that everybody can think of two people to fit the bill! The more expensive the car to insure the greater the effect.

Yup, and it's quite a big effect too. The price jumps to £2102.08 with them removed, so they are a 30% / £627.17 discount!

I'm not saying it's not what she shouldn't do, I'm saying it's not comparable.
You have not found a cheaper deal using the same criteria.
