Let Down By French Teacher and School

I got a D at gcse spanish because I didn't get how tenses worked for the course work in year 10.

Still went to uni though...

Best thing to do is set her on fire

Universities for the most part couldn't give a hoot about what you got in your GCSEs beyond English, Maths and Science. Don't worry about it unless you have a real urge to go on and study French at a higher level.

Calm down dear. They're only GCSEs. And a French one is like totally insignificant and unimportant.

everyone speaks english anyway :P

i rememb er about 17 years ago when i first got french lessons in school and the miserable old french bag went on about how useful it is to learn france and how if you become a profesional france is the busisness language of the world and superior to every other language bla bla bla.

what a bunch of crap its a total waste of time people would be better off doing panting and decorating , gardening etc spend those few hours every week on skills that matter not a language you will probably never use

I did German and got a C.

Also, only universities that will care about a gcse language are oxbridge, and even then they might not care seeing as nobody will even be going as it costs too much.

Languages are some of the best regarded GCSEs because they're challenging. I'd be ticked off too if I'd been let down by my teacher. Gundog48- I'd write a formal letter to the head. Don't get mad, just carefully write down how you think you've been let down and how different things were when there was a senior member of staff in the lesson.

Gotta lol at all the language hate in here. I don't agree that languages are a waste of time. England is pretty much the laughing stock of the world when it comes to our skill with language. We come across as ignorant because of our inability to make sense of other people and make ourselves understood. It pays to be good at languages.

Tbh languages are largely unnecessary, just keep repeating yourself louder and slower until you are understood.

If this fails, the people are clearly retarded and deserve to have all their outdoor plastic furniture thrown around onto the streets.

We got sub teachers (PE and Maths) for A level IT for the first 1 year. The next year started the same then around december we got a real Teacher. I think the best grade was a C in a class of 20.

On top of all that most universities are only accepting people that get at least a C in a foreign language. I just feel so let down by a school that boldly shouts about it being the best school in England.

Who is feeding you this ??

What course / university do you actually want to attend ?? Post up some info and we can help you. I can assure you, that GCSEs are usually absolutely meaningless when it comes to universitys. Unless you are intending on going to oxford or cambridge or something.

If you intend on going to a normal uni (like say the University of Leeds for example, middle of the road sort of uni, Not amazing, but not Oxford) then you will get in just fine with whatever ucas points the course says you need.

Theres 2 issues here

1) Is your French GCSE that important ? It appears you've been talked round into thinking it us. But it most likely isn't.

2) what to do if you intend to study foreign languages at university or something and your French GCSE score actually is important. If this is the case you really need to A) talk to your parents and B) go with them to the school to talk about your concerns. She can't be the only French Teacher in the school surely ?

Thread title is disapoint :(

Thought it was an old joke!

What did the inflatable teacher say to the inflatable boy, who brought a pin to the inflatable school ........” you’ve let me down, you’ve let yourself down and you’ve let the whole school down”

Back to OP send her a link to this thread, and also link my joke for afterwards :D

IT probably would have been more intellectually relevant if it had maths and PE teachers doing it. Our IT teacher was a drunken smokaholic who did **** all and just let us play browser games lol. He only started actually teaching us when the IT admins started blocking all the games sites.

Drop a letter to the school, expressing what you've said in the original post. It sounds like she's being a lazy teacher and not matching her teaching up to the needs of the students in your class.

It's so frustrating to hear of teachers like this (I teach in a secondary school), getting by, putting no real work in and generally being a "failing" teacher, when so many other teachers are passionate about the kids and going waaay out of their way to help them in every way possible.
