Hope you really like eggs... We had 4 chickens and would get an egg from each one every day - guaranteed. We were selling some and giving lots away to friends as we had no chance of using them all ourselves.
Down to 2 birds now (one died naturally and one had to be 'dispatched' when it became very ill) - the poor things are getting rather old, but we still get the odd egg every few days from one of them.
They are good fun to keep (if a bit messy in the winter when the poop doesn't dry up), and have quite a bit of 'personality'.
We get about 3 eggs a day from the 5 chickens and 2 from the ducks, so yeah, we're well stocked. Normally have about 10 - 15 eggs at any one time in the fridge, but the chicken eggs are obviously much smaller than shop-bought eggs - you need 3 to make a fair-sized omelette. Claudia's eggs are about an inch tall.
Am I the only one who thinks the pond should be filled with gravy to save time? Or in the ducks case, make their bedding out of pancakes for later.... Mmmm.
We got 3 chickens last week and they seem to have settled in alright. They put themselves to sleep in their little house and they all have their own spot. However my cat seems to have taken a disliking to them and it seems shes pretty jealous of the attention we are giving them
