So I went down my local last night with my best mate. Just as we were outside finishing up we hear a car speeding down towards the mini roundabout just outside the pub followed by a loud skid and a crash, smashing glass etc. me and my friend walk out of the smoking area where we were to see what had happened I was the first out. Just as I stepped out I saw one of the cars flaw it past me with a smashed bumper and headlight - I was expecting him to stop so put one leg off the pavement into the road but this guy just sped right past me! my friend and I then moved to the other car a silver 4x4 stopped in the road, a lady got out clearly shaken and asked us what we saw she then burst into tears by this point the barmaids at the pub and another regular were outside in the road - we helped her to the side of the road, called the police and moved the womens car out of the road. It just amazed me that the other person simply drove off which in itself is illegal but he could have serverly hurt that woman, who it turned out was about 4 months into her first pregnancy, did they not care? I know that they were probably scared but not to stop and check is completly out of line IMO.

Just felt like venting as this really made me angry!

nope got a rough idea of the make, model and color of the car but it all happened so fast we dint get a look at the plate

Had a strange one also, people who just moved into house across from us, massive fight, could see it all, lights on, curtains open, then police showed up.

Hope you managed to get a good description of the car. Even better the plates.

And the car could have been stolen so there would have been no chance he would have got out to check if the woman was okay.

FAIL! First thing I would have done personally...

Its okay to say that now, without you being there- you can't really say what you would have done... In response to the OP though I hope your okay and that so is the lady and that everything gets sorted soon

Right.. because if you were gonna be knocked down the first thought you would have woudl be "I had best read the plate". Give the guy a break.

Hope the lady was OK. I've witnessed hit and run's before as well. The youth's just jumped out after smashing into the side of the car, and ran off.

I would like to think I could have got the year, or the first letter, but yes, it totally depends on the situation. Was the lady Ok? How was her car?

In all fairness to the OP, I've been a witness to a hit & run myself & the first thing you think about is the victim of the hit & run. It all happens so quick you don't think about the car number plate at all. You only think about it when its all over.

Is there any CCTV round where it happened? If so the police will get the number plate from the footage.

she was fine a bit shaken, an abulance turned up along with her family and took care of her. as for damage to the car the back right wheel arch was dented and wheel had buckled inward but it was not too bad unlike the other care which had sugnificant damage to the bumper, bonnet and headlight

Edit:

Is there any CCTV round where it happened? If so the police will get the number plate from the footage.

Yep petrol garage on the roundabout with two CCTV cameras, they must have cuaght it

Exactly. Especially after a few drinks. Its not like he was fully alert with his crime fighting cape in his bag waiting for crimes to happen so he could spring into action.

yea because that is the first thing that crosses your mind... dont tell me you would have pulled out your phone taken a photo and used your CSI skills to zoom in on the persons DNA strands so you could compare than against some national database a lot of criminals are on. :D

That sounds bad :( 4 months into pregnancy too! Person who kept on going should pay a HUGE fine to the other person (we are talking about tens of thousands) and minimum 5 years jail, just because he kept on going.
