Evening,

Well I've had the SGS2 8 days and the IP4 2 now, and was working with my light tent for some other work so threw these in briefly :) Thought it might be interesting for you folk here in mobiles:

I'll update my thoughts on them generally when I've had longer to compare them: My main 2 so far though are that the SGS2 is definitely snappier and quicker in all aspects, and the iphone 4's battery is way better. Camera edges towards SGS2, as does the screen although the retina is VERY good too.

Cheers

Tom.

There have been plenty of comparisons done between them already really, you're just showing off your fancy camera. You don't fool me!

:p

One thing I will note (that you can see in the top picture) is that the earpiece has an overlying cutout that looks really odd.

I still think Retina is better than AMOLED, I want that as a 4-4.3" screen.

The overlay looks weird because its not straight on so there is some shift that makes it look misaligned.

Also I disagree on the screen, the retina is marginally better for text and is eye searingly bright, but AMOLED black levels and colour/contrast make more of a difference to me. I do a lot of browsing and reading etc in unlit rooms, and having a screen that emits no light on a black screen is amazing for ebooks (black bg and grey font is very easy on the eyes on AMOLED, less so by a mile on retina).

The photo below looks 10x better on the sgs2 for example. Much more contrast and vibrance, and DEEP blacks.

Retina AMOLED would be an interesting product though : :D

Also te sgs2 is MUCH faster at browsing the web, especially pages with lots of images etc....some threads on Ocuk are loading like 6x faster when they have a lot of images!

I do like the black levels on the amoled, makes reading ebooks very nice, although only do that when I am without the Kindle. :)

That is to be expected, the iPhone 4 is very old now (in phone terms :p)!

Regarding the screens, for images and video there is no doubt that AMOLED is better however it does oversaturate things a little bit and can make the colours look a bit over the top.

If you were comparing how you would see something directly with your eyes, I found the iPhone screen gives more 'realistic' results.

I think they are fantastic screens but I would always take the extra sharpness personally as you do notice it when browsing websites/emails for example and pictures on the retina do still look superb.

Samsung are developing laser based AMOLED technology which will provide the pin sharpness of the iPhone screen combined with the AMOLED good stuff. That will be something to behold! :D

It (Laser SAMOLED+ Super x2 Plus PLus...) is higher dpi than the Retina display so it will be sharper :)

I have to say, I think the white iP4 looks foul. Black looks so much better.

That's racist!

The white IP4 is slightly thicker than the black one. Does anyone know why?

Anomaly.

Were those two phones mating? Nothing like a bit of interracial to spice up a morning. -erotic growling-

Must. Not. Fap.

I doubt many will be able to tell the difference in sharpness at such high dpi.

The white material and camera lense glass they used is different, as the one they planned on using had issues when the flash fired.

I'm not sure what the point of that is though, the retina displays more pixels than your eyes can see...

If there is no point to it then it's simply because the new manufacturing process just allows for it sow hy not :p

Each samoled screen that's come out has improved in power efficiency over the previous one so I doubt that, as far as samsung are concerned anyway.

you have to remember the SoC will use more power to drive more pixels.

Even /if/ that's the case on the next round of superphones I doubt it will make the battery drain faster due to improvements elsewhere cancelling this out and breaking even.

Samsung have confirmed these screens anyway so it is going as planned for the SGS III!
