Tax dodgers - rant and questions

So these neighbours of ours have been running a car without tax for over a year now. I know for a fact they've been reported to the DVLA and the police on numerous occasions and they are still using it and getting away with it.

Short of breaking the law, how can we get this vehicle off the road (which as it's not taxed, I'm guessing the insurance-if any- is invalid)?

I mentioned to them their tax is out of date when he put a dink in my door but they assured me it is taxed, even though it isn't, but it is. If they told me, I wouldn't believe it-wtf?

What have we got to do to get the police or DVLA to do something? I've looked at reporting it as abandoned but the council in question suggests reporting to the DVLA.

I'm waiting for the responses of why should it bother you... Well have you ever been hit by an unisured driver? If so, you'd understand!

Burn the car then go and burn the house, its the only way.

Thanks for the linky. Is burning the car and house now legal???? If only it was that simple.....

As previously mentioned, over a year has passed and the police and DVLA haven't done squat about it, apart from provided a few crime numbers....

How do you know without any doubt that the car isn't taxed? And maybe he derives perverse pleasure from not displaying the tax disc just to get on people's nerves!

Checked on the DVLA website. Has been unlicensed (or whatever wording they use - can't access at work) for over a year.

But does it have any bearing on the price of your packet of bacon?

Just ignore the dick come on mate be the bigger man let him get on with it, or tell him, or tell the police whatever you wanna do but dont waste any more time on him for gods sake.

You've told the police and the dvla will be aware.
Unless he is causing other issues that need police / dvla attention leave it alone and get on with your life.

Easier said than done.

The family are a bunch of spongers (makes you proud to be British type).

Their car is always blocking garages and inconsidarately parked.

Numerous dents and scratches and wing mirrors knocked and have been seen doing it, but it's not them! Never is!

I'm more concerned for the poor bu**er they eventually hit.

I'm paying my taxes to support wasters like these (there is always and excuse and constantly trying to borrow money and food off neighbours which I no longer do as it's never seen again) while they are sponging and getting away with tax evasion, being caught with the 'wrong' credit cards on numerous occasions, and still they get away with it. Drives me mad I'm afraid!

why wait I check cars on that website all the time its perfectly fine to check any car you like on it :)

who cars that it says you have to own the car, if they really cared they would seek further clarification on the ownership status (v5 number etc..)

By rights the DVLA should eventually send one of their vans round with the big yellow wheel clamp to make 'em pay.
Nothing to stop a right-thinking citizen from asking them why they haven't done this?

It's been asked numerous times. The local clamping company the DVLA use is about an hours drive away.

They won't come round to not be able to take the car away in case they are out, despite being told when the car is parked up.

no road tax does not mean they aren't insured

the two are worlds apart in my book

no tax = no care
no insurance = shopping to the filth quick smart

True - insurance and tax are two different things.
But research shows that where one is not present there is a very high possibility the other isn't there either.
Why buy insurance if you're not going to bother with tax?
Why buy tax and then not bother with insurance?

Very often a pull for one will result in both.

I don't know why you "don't care" about people not paying tax.
Why should people get away without paying what they should be paying?
You up for benefit cheats to?
Those that don't bother declaring income and not paying income tax?

Makes me mad when people think they can just do as they like.
If they were my neighbour I'd be continuously hassling DVLA.
The cost of a letter is more or less nothing, an email costs nothing.
Eventually DVLA would get fed-up of me contacting them and do something about it.
