Red Faction Armageddon-10th June on PC

Sorry, I forgot about Red Faction 2, I meant Guerilla. :) Although I didn't like the second as much as the first I still thought it was ok.

^^

Yeah they got a bit annoying. Even worse were the respawning checkpoints/bunkers. Completely defeated the point of trying to push into a base with frequent hit n run attacks when all the guards and defensive structures would reappear basically the moment you left.

It was good fun being stealthy, though it only actually worked for the earlier areas. But once you got alerted it became futile as everyone knew where you were regardless.

I seem to remember that for a long long time I played it like any other game, retreat when theres masses of the opposition or I'm out of ammo. Seem to recall later into the game I'd simply plough into pretty much any size group of opposition with the trusty hammer and smash the bejesus out of everything.

Installing it again to have a bit of a play through, its okay, bit boring the second time around but still some satisfaction in setting up huge chain explosions.

I tried it on the highest difficulty. It really made you play like a proper guerilla fighter. Was great fun sneaking around a key location, planting Proxi-Mines all around the inside or outside, running away and blowing 1 up and watching the explosions circle the building and it collapse.

But the second area just became futile. You could probably progress the story further without too much trouble (Can't remembered if I did now...) but trying to destroy key targets without simply charging in and trying to cause as much damage as you could before the whole EDF army descended on you and killed you was impossible.

Best place to preorder this for delivery on the 10th?

Cannot link to them but there are 2 big etailors who are shipping the PC version now in UK & it should unlock on Friday via Steam as its a Steamworks title. It came out in US today so most of the big stores will be shipping this tomorrow.

I get mine tomorrow!

Can you trust me them please mate?

Anyones preorder been dispatched yet? Mine hasn't yet according to the website, just says I've paid for my preorder and the game comes out in 1 days time.

Yep got mine today but cannot even install until midnight as its locked via Steam yet they will let me pre-load & waste 8GB bandwidth :( as I have registered my game on Steam now this is just pathetic

Mine doesn't appear to have been dispatched which I'm abit annoyed about as the store I bought it from guarantee's delivery on the 10th or give me £3 store credit. Paid up front as well, annoying -.-

That guarantee is only ever if you pre-ordered before a certain date I think Wednesday before midday.

This is a really good game on PC :D Been playing for a few hours now.

It rare in 2011 PC Gamers have something which is taking advantage of their modern hardware. It supports DX9/10/11 has a lot of graphical options & also looks very good in places. FPS is insane even with max everything & MSAAx8 no frame drops no stuttering very fast loading times technically its superb & highly polished. Menus are also very fast/smooth this game is very well optimised I do not think many CPU/GPU combo's from the last 3 years will struggle with this game at all THQ/Volition did an excellent job here ;)

The graphics are pretty special  in places & the level of random destruction is amazing its like you are in control of a big budget action movie when you fire the impressive weapons (some of the best I have ever seen in any game on any platform :D). Some graphics you can see the usual console low resolution lack of detail but several are excellent & it has little graphical detail touches only the PC can render but screenshots will not really show you how impressive they are like little multicloured shaders beneath steel surfaces scattering the light with a nice rainbow pattern. Or lens flares/coloured shadow lights which form subtle glows.

For me this is one of the best looking PC games this year so far & superb technically :D

Controls are very easy as well. 360 gamepad is best & very smooth to play with but it supports mouse+kb as well & you can cnofigure the controls to your preference.
Gameplay is similar to RFG except now most missions take place under the surface of Mars & you get to battle some very imaginative creatures/monsters which look pretty unique. There are some very cool gameplay features like destroy a building/platform/ledge then reconstruct it instantly but watch it go back together piece by piece polygon by polygon  Its a very impressive ingame feature & you can use it anytime on objects which allow it (usually anything made of steel). Weapons are easy to upgrade & you can even reset your upgrades ingame & reallocate them to other weapons/powers. you can also save anywhere anytime & it uses checkpoints as well so you never lose much progress if you get killed.

This also has other gampelay modes apart from SP missions including a free roam destroy anything mode ;) & a MP game system as well.

The only downside to this game I can find is the missions are similar like most modern games. Apart from that its a game which few will regret buying as it offers more of the same as RFG but with better gfx & a much smoother gameplay experience now the action has moved under the surface into smaller play areas instead of the huge martian surface from RFG.

As its a Steamworks title it also supports cloud saves but the game will not install from DVD so here is what you have to do:

Install from DVD but you will notice it ignored the DVD & starts to download 8GB so just cancel that update in Steam then delete the game from within Steam or program files & try again this time it will take & pick up the DVD & install from there which takes around 10 mins vs how long to download 8GB!

****** off due to the fact that my order has only just literally been dispatched. So much for the *it will be delivered on the 10th* guarantee crap. Won't be using that store again, especially seen as I couldnt cancel my preorder and get the money back into my bank account either, instead it goes to shop credit...
