BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

ive been told by tech support you cant have interleaving turned on or off, theres no option for it on infinity.

my ping to the bbc was 14-15 when i first got it, then they went to 30.

Asked for a profile reset, now there back at 14-15.

Ive got a well dodgy line from the green box though, 1060 metres of ally and i get 13-15mb.

Still better than the 2-3 on adls2.

Got a bt openreach joint expert coming out tomorrow to have a look at the line

Would be interesting to see what the BT Openreach guy does to that, keep us posted with the results of his visit.;)

Would be good if he changes the old ally cable to new copper has to be honest that's what it really needs. The copper pair is far superior at handling the Higher Frequency used for the VDSL2+ signal that is used with Infinity especially at that line length from the FTTC Cab:D

He did nothing, lol, the bloke on friday said he would come today and look at the joints, all he did was goto the cab, look for a spare pair, no spare capacity, so pointless.

Would be a big job swapping it all for copper, when they up the speed later this year or next, i may get a bit more.

So what is the general consensus with the BT infinity?

Is it worth the 18month contract and is it reliable when it comes to all aspects, latency for games, downloading torrents, ssh tunnels performance?

Do they have any covert packet shaping that is only pointed out in size 4 font on the 200 page terms and conditions?

When it works it works well. Pings are good, speeds are great.

However, there seems to be a few odd issues on their network.

Things I have experienced:

1. 2Kb/s and under speeds from the Adobe Flash download site 24/7, I have seen the same issue once or twice from the Nvidia Drivers website.

2. Last two week during traffic managed hours, the server browser in Battle Field Bad compnay 2 has failed to load. Loads absolutley perfectly after 12am however.

Number two is cheesing me off big time, as what the bidaly bung am I going to do when BF3 is around and I cant load the server browser because of BT's shizer traffic shapping!

The muppets in India got me to reset my equipment which was a metaphorical 'your the problem' gesture. Obviously problem still persists.

I am considering going to it but I hate BT with a passion from past experiences. I am thinking of going with eclipse internet instead, although it is not unlimited during peak times it is a reasonable 100gb within peak times. It is more expensive but no point paying for BT fibre if you can't get good latency in games, ssh tunnels do not work and downloads only in the middle of the night.

I am unable to find any T&C or info on traffic shaping on the BT website regarding the bt fibre service. They do not even have any information on caps. they just say unlimited with a * then i can't find any information on it.

I just put through an order for the BT infinity business line, will get it on the 17th July (when my contract ends) ill do some tests and let you know how it is after that date.

£42 per month... for 24 months, I should get 28mbit/6mbit

Business fibre includes, 4 hours response and 24 hour support.

Anyone tried the BT fibre for business ?

http://business.bt.com/broadband-and-internet/internet-access/fibre-broadband/

It is a bit more expensive and it is on 24month contract, but they promise no packet shaping and comes with 100gb cap. With £5 upgrade per month for unlimited usage.

Thats all fine and dandy, but it doesnt excuse the fact that the fastest most unlimited package for BT Infinity is still casuing issues with BFBC2.

Paying an extra £14 a month should not be an answer.

Have you emailed the CEO yet, more people that email him with the same issue the more chance we will have in getting it fixed.

Groen: I too dont like BT. Have had enough trouble with then of late as it is.

Thats why i went with ADSL24 for my FTTC. Yes you have a cap at peak times, 8am - 12am, But unlimited usage (midnight-8am and all weekend) but it is 100% non throttled all of the time. and always at top speed and low pings.

http://adsl24.co.uk/broadband/fibre/

You pay your money you take your choice.

:)

Yea I liked the look of ADSL24, my only problems with it is that, i can not guarantee that i will not be moving house within the next 12 months and BT had a more reasonable moving policy. I also shut my PC down at night at the moment, due to excessive humming caused by my old graphics card and cheap cardboard walls on my property. Which means that I might struggle with the cap.

But I would rather not go with BT. Lets hope their business fibre is better than their home products. :/

Already banging my head against the wall with BT. Apart from booking the wrong engineer date, even though it is over a month in advance, to start with. They can't even answer a basic question on the traffic shaping policy.

On the website it says that between 4-7pm there will be peak time restrictions. Then in the pdf document BT_Business_Broadband_Access_Service_Service_Schedule.pdf It refers to this url http://btbusiness.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/17255 where it says a different set of traffic policies. So i just wanted to confirm which one was correct.

Poor sales lady does not know what to say. :D
