Computer doesn't always post.

This happened once a month or so back, where i had to try multiple times before the computer would get to the bios post screen (everything powering up, just no post beep or screen etc)

A couple days ago i flashed my BIOS, and now it's happening all the time. It happens when turning computer on, or even if computer is suspended and resumed; occasionally it will post first time in a normal amount of time, but sometimes it can take me up to 10 minutes of waiting a while to check if it eventually posts, and then forcing it to power down and turning it on again until it posts.

ONCE it posts, computer is perfectly fine and shows no negative symptoms, running (Aslong as i don't suspend it) for +10 hours (never tried longer).

Any ideas?

gigabyte ma770-ud3 rev. 1 w/ bios version f9g
amd phenom II x2 550 black ed.
2x2gb ddr2 ocz (platinum i think)
geforce 9600gt
ocz 600w stealth something psu

Make sure all the PSU connectors are plugged in properly. Seen a similar problem and it turned out the main 24pin connector just wasn't quite in properly.

Could be a faulty bios flash. Had something similar happen to me, needed a new bios/flash to recover. I would try using a different bios or reflash first up.

Try a spare PSU by all means, but until you confirm yours faulty, don't buy another.

Anyways, reset BIOS defaults, set RAM timings manually, try sticks of RAM individually. Does it POST if left for a long time (few minutes or so)? Do you get any graphical errors such as artifacting?

bios defaults were set when bios was flashed, and it started happening before i changed them at all. It's unlikely that ram could be the issue; i had issues in the past with the ram and had them thoroughly tested, including the one sent back when one was replaced for faults.

Sometimes it does post if i'm patient enough after a few minutes, usually i restart and try again before it gets to be that long :P

there are no graphical artifacts or ANY issue at all once it posts, it's simply getting to the post which it has issues with.

I'm going to try checking connections / if that fails trying a different psu later tonight.

As someone pointed out this happened before i flashed the bios (though only once or twice, whereas now it's every time virtually)

In that case, reseat all PCI/PCI-E cards and run without the essential stuff attached, see if it gets past POST. I've found if it POSTs eventually, according to my PCI diagnostics card thing, it's usually having trouble initializing either add-on cards or the RAM.

Had the same PSU it did the same thing you're describing give it a bit longer and it'll more than likely give up completely.... Go with what others have said and try borrow a spare PSU to test it with. :(

I may get shot down in flames for this but you dont say what h/drive your running. Its not an OCZ SSD is it? I've had some similar problems recently, since i've removed the drive i've had 0 problems at all. I had the same with it turning on but not booting, no post beep etc.

I've actually seen more no-POST cases as motherboard failure than PSU :p

Surely some diagnosis is better than throwing £40 at something straight away?

Fair enough. However, it will POST... just not all the time. Which indicates a failing PSU.

I see the same thing at least twice a week, every week. It wont turn on, fans spin up but nothing on monitor. You take the plug out, leave it for 5 mins. Come back and it works, when it's on it's fine. Same thing the next day. It's a sign of a failing PSU.

I hope no one is taking offence to my posting style. It's just all harmless fun and I don't mean to cause offence or belittle anyones knowledge. I know 99% of people on here have forgotten more than I will ever learn. Yourself included no doubt.
