From what ive been reading, the hacking that has been taking place and continues to take place it starting to get very serious.
Again, from what ive read the ( no name group ) are doing this for the good of man against the the govts, banks and giant corps trying to dictate to us all.
As of yet its not effected me,
Ive read that they have started the first phase of a 4 phase global fight
what are your views on why they are doing it ?
do you think it will lead to some sort of internet crack down ?

Most if it isn't really hacking per se, lots of DDOS attacks on various websites with a little bit of hacking now and again. If it is true that they have now done the same to the CIA website then i think they may have just moved from "Irritant" to "Let's do something about this" status.

I'm following LulzSec on twitter and while it's funny watching them troll 4chan I can't agree with them just throwing data out there. Not because I don't agree with throwing the data out there, but it's crazy the amount of kids, who probably have no idea what they are doing and aren't protecting themselves, that are jumping on logins and passwords like it's a free-for-all. The only people who're going to end up fingered and ****ed will be them. Which I suppose is all just part of the "Lulz". I've read each release and admired the logins and passwords. But I ain't touching that ****.

Also. CIA DDoS isn't that impressive. Get in and get data from the CIA. That'll show how big their balls are. Which is basically all they're about. Showing the world how awesome they are.

I just want them to get busted to see what they actually look like.

Oh also, if you're into hacking and security stuff, the Hope.net (hackers on planet earth) website is a good source of talks featuring a lot of high profile hackers and security experts. Last years feature had a talk "Informants: Villains or Heroes" which featured guest speaker of all people, Adrian Lamo (who ratted out Bradley Manning). The mp3 of the talk is available here (just search for "Villains" to find the relevant post with the link).

Indeed. They seem to be picking on bigger targets as-well so they will get caught eventually. Especially with being so public about their attacks.

"they" are not a few poeple there will be 1000's of groups and 100's of 1000's of people working on this, with 1000's more dabbling and trying it every day...

give it 20 years and unless something changes you will have to climb out of the windows to use next doors phone to call the cyber police and tell them your house has a virus, its infected your TV, car, home security system, fridge, lights, the only thing left working in your house will be your apple laptop that you could not work out how to interface with your google / MS house....

only you forgot to turn off your moblie and you infected next doors house as well...

It's a tough one really, I mean these people are self styled robin hood figures who are a law on to themselves. While it's good they are exposing massive security gaps and bringing security in to the public light it is also completely inappropriate not to follow the total disclosure kudos that white and grey hats normally follow.

The thing that annoys me is that all the years people have been told to use strong passwords with a range of character sets and now it means nothing if the data processor doesnt store them in an appropriate way.

What will come of it all? It's hard to say, is it just the flavour of the month that the media often cycle through? Is it just a group of people who will get bored if we stop paying them attention? Will governments beef up their cyber crime efforts. Much like the security and stability of the UK means people set up business here will the same be thing happen virtually? Will the security of the UKs cyber space encourage organisations to set up shop within our borders?

Personally if it is all in the news in the next month or two still I imagine the latter will happen. Much tougher laws and much more effort in place for catching these people, perhaps more international cooperation with regards to bringing people the justice.

I hope it carries on hitting the news as it makes my services a lot easier to sell!

I've checked out the latest lulzsec release of 65,000 passwords from various accounts and in the header they state they have no idea how old they are and if they're still live so make of that what you will.

A lot of the addresses seem too made up as well.

And yes, I did search for my usual accounts but nothing ¬_¬ You guys might want to check yours too just in case heh.

It's been very entertaining... however I don't agree with them ddosing random servers; I don't think that's very entertaining, impressive or fair at all.

I have a bet with a friend that they wont be caught any time this year and I'm pretty confident I'll win that bet.

In that HOPE talk I linked to, apparently 1 in 4 hackers is a snitch. The talk goes into the "why" of hackers snitch on their friends and accomplices. One of these guys is going to get caught and he's going to finger everyone else to save his own neck. Or he could turn round and completely refuse to co-operate with law enforcement or government and take the entire (significant) sentence himself. I wouldn't be too confident in that bet.

It's got to the point where they can initiate a ddos attack by simply saying they have. Case of point the CIA site. It's suspected that the volume of people checking it once they said they had done it actually caused the downtime.

They
a. Used to refer to people in general.
b. Used to refer to people in general as seen in a position of authority.

so yes They.

You never know it could all just be a false flag operation to tighten controls on the internet , **** the public off by giving away their data and goverments will be free to lock the internet down with sweeping new laws which "protect citizens". Sounds like a crazy conspiracy theory but crazier things have happened!

This would not surprise me, and is what ive been thinking
