msi 580 3gb vs phantom 580 3gb

Problem is, it's expensive as ****!
I would get the MSI and if you want to liquid cool, there are some blocks out for the non ref 580's.

This is a useful tool to determine which blocks will fit:

The 3gb air cooled EVGA is the same price as the Lightning?
But I get to keep my warranty if I water block the EVGA.

On the MSI, I do not.

Unless Scotti can say that MSI do keep warranty when coolers are removed then I will be more than happy to purchase the Lightning

There is a huge difference in price between the GTX 580 Twin Frozr and the Lightning, how is this justified? It looks like the same cooler, are the components rated higher or is the extra cost just for the overclock?

To my knowledge this has never been an issue, as long as the card isnt damaged in any way and the original cooler is refitted properly prior to return, i've never known our service centre reject a card that's been watercooled.

VERY different cards

Twin Frozr II (based on Nvidia reference design)

Lightning (full Military Class II with double the number of power phases)

There is a list of other differences longer than my arm but if you are really interested I think you can DL a PDF here

on the watercooling front, we are working with a watercooling manufacturer to produce a waterblock for the 580 GTX Lightning, I'll let you guys know once it's released.

That could be very interesting any idea if they are going to go down the single slot design like the EVGA 3GB GeForce GTX 580 Hydro Copper 2?

definitely not

All lightnings are short in supply at the moment. These cards are 100% custom so they are not as easy to churn out in quantity.

I hope that OcUK will have stock again in the next week or two.

Im still waiting for my 1.5BG lightning(been a week, running off my i7 IGP), fingers crossed for some time next week:)

If you're liquid cooling, you can buy an EK single slot bracket for around £5

I'm certainly going to consider MSI for my next card. why won't MSI officially say that liquid cooling is ok?

And, if i said my card had been liquid cooled, then returned it for an RMA direct to MI, then would they reject it even if it was in perfect physical condition?
