I've removed the holding clips but it's not coming out. Looks like I'm going to have to drill it out.
I need to change it because I had to cut the hanger off when it snapped as it was stuck on.

I have a replacement here to go straight back in.

You just have to give it a good whack. It's a press fit.

Easier said than done - as you can see in the picture above the pivot bolt falls behind the mechanism so it can't move. The tension in the spring means it's impossible to hold open to enable the bolt to come out.

A drill it is :)

Sorry I can’t add anything to the bolt issue. I have taken my X0 apart but not that bolt.

'I think' my chain ring woes are over. I took the chainset to my lbs (Yes I do work but the last few weeks from home :) ) and the guy in there was pretty much laughing at me, having a joke etc. The chain rings are nowhere near worn - I compared it to a new sram chainset and he's right. He looked at the smaller ring and filled a large bur off. Probably hooking the chain up.

Anyway, I’m like :) today, then had a phone call from TF tuned. Forks (SID RLT2011) are going back for a warranty repair. So for the next few weeks I’m on the road bike so.... see ya later I’m off. http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18159043&page=32

Bike tape sticks fine to ano frames, it did to my Makulu.

As I posted about previously, I visited the Wildcat Trails at Golspie at the start of this week.

http://www.highlandwildcat.com/

Went up on Tuesday, weather was glorious. Trails were empty.

Intended doing the red route but ended up crossing over a wee bit onto the black at the "Stone Circle". There was a post pointing towards a short cut to the red descent but I decided to head up the Lactic Ladder and go along the top part on the way down.

Bit of bad judgement on my part!!!. I'm a relative beginner to MTB's and found the Lactic Ladder very difficult. I tried to keep at it but had a nasty fall about halfway up which dented my confidence. It was one of those "SPD moments", couldn't get out of the pedals quickly enough on a really tricky bit and went down hard on my shoulder with the bike on top of me. I'm not sure about my SPD's on these really tricky technical parts, what do you guys prefer?. Clipless or big pedals and pins like DMR V8's?. I've just ordered a pair of V8's to give them a bash. The SPD's are great on my local trail at Carron Valley but for more technical stuff I think they hold me back a bit as I'm always wary about having to try and get out of them in the event of a fall.

Anyway, the descent was pretty intense too, "VTOL" and "Running the Gauntlet" were again, a bit beyond my skill level so like the Lactic Ladder, I had to get off and walk a chunk of the course. Once back onto the red I enjoyed Valhalla and Lawsons Run though, fast, swoopy and some nice tabletops and drop offs.

All in all it's a pretty amazing set of trails but beyond my skill level in parts at this point. I found it hard going and I'm not sure if a hardtail like my Cube Acid is the best thing for these sort of trails. Thinking of going the Full Sus route at some point in the next few months. Scenery up there is truly amazing as are the views from the top. And the cafe in the car park does a great Brie and Cranberry toastie and it's white rocky road is to die for!!. :D

Anyway, stopped to take a few snaps on the way up, here are a few :-

Gorgeous pics, looks like a good bit of techy climbing in the 2nd one :)

How long have you had the SPDs? It's a bit of a can of worms subject, there are people who manage fine using them for all kinds of riding (DH, XC, tech trail etc) and others who just keep it simple with flats (like me), maybe see what sort of adjustment you have to speed up your unclipping?

Nice pics!

Flats definetly seem to be growing in popularity, I use them, because I feel more confident on them, and the boost in confidence is more important than the drop in performance from SPDs. Some people feel the opposite though, they don't feel as confident unless they're attached to the bike. It's all about being comfortable, the last thing you want to be thinking about is your pedals.

I will have pictures tomorrow, only using my phone at the minute. Looks awesome in the flesh. Glad I didn't go for the low stack the forks would have hit the frame only a couple of mm as it is. Already put some frame wrap on the chainstay and get to the tape tomorrow after work.

wak waka waka....

There is a vid on Youtube....somewhere, showing that descent. It's just epic.

I'm itching to get up there. I have a trip planned in August. Can wait. Some of the best trails in the UK I have been told.

Awesome, dude!

Dude. I'm not telling you how to spend your monies or shiz but but ditch the RP23. It just doesn't work on the Nomad. I'm speaking from experience with 3 VPP bikes. With a 180mm fork you WILL look like a prat! No offense meant.

Thing is i really don't care what anyone thinks. I will give the RP23 a few months if i dont like it i will change it then. Right now i have more important things to spend money on.

It's cool that you don't care what anyone else thinks and to do your own thing. But to diss experience is just silly.

Being constructive I'll tell you why: The RP23 (like most air shocks) lacks mid stroke support, meaning when you hit med-big jumps/drops, it will blow through its travel. The RP23 isn't a bad shock but it has a tendancy to wallow in the mid stroke and get overheated on medium length DH runs. I could tell you that with experience with my T2 and as it turns out Ichabod Crane with his diminutive weight noticed it too.

I have owned a Nomad before. If I were you spending all that money I wouldn't be so dismisive of others opinions. After all, some of us have an educated opinion.

I really hope you take your bike for the ragging it deserves.
