Hi, I’m new to the forum but a customer of OC, I’m looking to updated my current PC, I’ve managed to choose a HDD (going for the Samsung SpinPoint F1 1TB) but I am now stuck on which RAM I should get and which one will work. I’ve opened my tower, I see 4 slots, 2 are occupied, I managed to pull one out (see pic), so I assume I have 2x 2GB so 4GB in total, I’m looking to add an additional 4GB RAM in total, the question now is, which RAM will work, I’ve done a search on the web and it didn’t help much.

Can you please help?

This is your memeory's spec - link - note the part number in the link.

And you should find that the Kingston HyperX 6400 memory will run fine along side it - just set the timigs to that of the Kingston's slighty lower timings - link

EDIT: i keep forgetting to ask this in similar threads - do you have a 64 bit OS?

Thank you for the reply, yeah that's the one i have. As for the Kingston, what do you mean buy setting the timings slightly lower?? Isent this plug and play? Sorry i don't know much.

Oh and it is a 64 bit Windows 7

The OCZ has timings of 5-4-4-18 and the Kingston's has 5-5-5-15.

For compatibilty sake - you would set the frequency to 5-5-5-18 so that the timings compliment the two sets. And you will have to do this manually within the BIOS (no plug and play as such).

It may be you will be able to tighten the timings - but for initial setup you should set them as above.

You may also need to up the MCH voltage (North bridge) to keep things stable as using all the dimm slots puts more stress on the memory controller (mch) and so may require more juice.

Great.
