Buying SSD

Buying a SSD in with my new build as a boot drive, I keep reading all this talk about AHCI, and I've got no idea what it means!

Would I do like I normally would, just plug in the hard drives and install windows on the SSD? Or is it a bit more complicated than that with a SSD?

You need to switch an option in your bios from IDE to AHCI

OK, so is this something I can do before installing windows then just carry on with the install? Is it worth going for the SSD do you reckon?

Yup just set it in the bios and install windows as normal. Yeah SSD makes a massive difference.

Make sure you disconnect any HDD's before installing Windows on the SSD.

I'd say an SSD is worth it if you're impatient. If you have time to wait/are not too bothered about loading speeds then you aren't going to be getting much for your money.

I like the fact my computer's pretty much silent when I'm doing anything, and not having a HDD clicking away.

Thanks for the advice guys, any suggestions on a SSD for around £100? Been looking at the crucial. Opinions?

Yeah the Crucial M4 is a great little SSD and it's on offer this week too.

yeh the Crucial M4 64gb is great, but if you want a faster write speed and more storage and bigger budget you can get the M4 128gb for about £170 online.
