More RAM or SSD?

I'd either go with this: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-013-IN&groupid=701&catid=14&subcat=1427

or this: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-009-CR&groupid=701&catid=14&subcat=1427

The Intel is Sata-II and the Crucial is Sata-III but it won't matter much since you're using Sata-II anyway. Both of these are quick and are a lot more reliable than the OCZ drives so I'd recommend staying away from them for now.

Nice one.

As for the SSD, unless it needs to be 2.5" then I'd go for the OCZ Vertex 2E Bigfoot as it's £15 cheaper than the 2.5" version with the same speeds.

Since he's upgrading a laptop, I don't think bigfoot will fit :D.

Didn't think so but it was worth pointing out :)

Also the OCZ problems were specifically with the Agility 3 series, not to do with the Vertex ones, but happy to be proved wrong if I am.

Afaik any OCZ or Corsair drive using SF2281 controller is/was affected. This includes Agility 3, Vertex 3, Corsair Force 3, unless I'm mistaken.

I've heard it is mainly the Agility drives too but I don't trust 'em, maybe it's just me being picky :p. The Intel and Crucial drives are the same price as the Vertex 2Es so I'd go with Intel or Crucial for peace of mind personally but it's up to the OP I guess.

There's always this if you don't mind going for the older original model: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-078-OC&groupid=701&catid=14&subcat=1427

Oh, so is that the same reason for the Corsairs being recalled?

Still, doesn't affect the Vertex 2E either way :p

But the M4 and Intel are still very good, although the M4 will go up in price tomorrow and won't be worth it then, but at the same price as the 2E it seems silly not to go for it and max out your speed limit.

I'm actually playing with the idea of getting the Crucial myself, I'm just asking myself if I actually need it . Another question is should I get the 64GB or the 128GB, if I get the 64GB will I regret not getting the 128GB and so forth. I'm also thinking should I just wait until Christmas and buy one off Newegg (Not sure if this is allowed but seeing how it's not a direct competitor since it doesn't ship here I don't see why not. Feel free to edit if it breaks the rules) and having them ship to the Villa i'll be staying in when i'm on holiday if Florida.

Decisions decisions :p.

personally if it is a upgrade for a laptop i would go with this original vertex SSD for £135, one of these for £12 so you can use the 256Gb HDD your remove from the laptop and that leave you just over £50 to get your memory.
that SSD will still be a massive boost to a laptop and to be honest you would probably be pushed to notice a difference between that drive and a faster one on the SATA2 controller in a laptop.
