Overreaction or a genuine cause for concern?

Mmm not attacking photographers here, which is why I made a point of explaining my Dad is also very much into photography, often upgrading every 2-3 years, various lenses etc etc. Making some little kid stand and pose without moving for 30 mins in the same places and a very strange pose as that. The kid also never uttered a single word the whole time and didn't look smiley/happy about being made to do what he was doing. Can only go by what my Dad told me here.

This technically in the eyes of the law. Under paragraph 32 of the Paedoact 1997 Makes your parents paedophiles and terrorists so i would edit the OP and keep it to yourself.

What do you mean hands by face , as lets face it that's a big range was it a

This is exactly why my dad had to turn down requests from family to take photos of their kids (i.e. my cousins) at various sporting events around town. People start to think you're dodgy.

I suggest you tell your parents to stop reading the Daily Mail and to get a god damn life!

Having been called a peado myself for taking photos after 10pm at night, in a town centre with no kids around its highly annoying and a sure sign of small minded idiots.

lol at photographers going crazy :p

Probably because we're all sick of being called Paedos and terrorists. A big lens isn't just used to take dodgy picture you know, some of us aren't as dirty as you...;)

OP I'd go through this sort of though process...

Big obvious and expensive lens... Paedos love to spend lots of money and make themselves obvious!
Big reflectors... Ditto above..
Siting your shoot next to a load of houses... Paedos love to shoot their illegal stuff next to people, they love the exhibition!
Standing around for ages after being questioned... Paedos love to wait around after they are suspected... They like to wait until the police turn up!

On second thoughts it could just be a grumpy photographer annoyed that he has been called a paedo again because he has expensive kit (why would you make yourself so obvious!) and is shooting his child. All he wants to do is play around with his new lens/reflectors/camera and get some good photos of his kid...

how long til adults aren't allowed to take their kids swimming anymore or something? why do people always assume the worst? it's a shame

Well your parents didn't go screaming and shouting at him and seemed perfectly sensible. The worst thing is out photographing at a park ie birds (the feathered kind) insects, landscape shots, and not having kids with you. The looks some parents give.

Hmmm, 30 mins sounds like a long time.. maybe parents just exaggerating?

Anyway, I was under the impression that taking pictures of kids is only paedophilic if the kid is doing something sexual? Otherwise I would have to report my parents for being paedophiles for having photo album after photo album of pictures of me when I was a child (especially the 'baby greatauk naked in the bath' pic - thankfully it's only come out once ages ago to embarrass me with).

Just sounds like a photo anorak enjoying some quality time with his equipment tbh.

guy notices my parents

- Dad confronted the guy a
- So my dad told him again

a few minutes later he left.

- My mum took a photo of the guy
- my dad went to the local police station

People staring at me and making comments implying i'm a peado would annoy me more tbh.
Your parents should have found something else to concentrate on, rather than this man and the boy. As mjt said, they should mind their own business tbh.
