Hey people

Im looking to build a new machine with a maximum of £1000, however that doesnt mean I need to spend all the money but wouldnt mind if I did.

At the moment I have a high end AMD machine with 8GB Ram, however its 2 years old now and its time for a new build. Ill be selling this machine to a friend which means I require all new components.

I would like someone to price me up a new machine with the following requirements:

Case: NZXT Phantom (not essential but its a case I like and also 600T White)
RAM: 8GB (minimum)
HD: Solid State for Windows and normal for storage.

I already have Windows 7 and ill purchase a new monitor in August.

All help and advice is greatly appreciated, thank you to all replies :)

I was just about to post but I decided to refresh and the build I specced is almost identical to RJCs, only difference being I did the 1tb HDD and then chose the XFX pro 750W PSU but that makes you go a little more over budget anyway.

What size monitor are you looking to buy, you could down grade the gpu in my spec above.

Thanks for the reply people :)

I use the PC for Internet Browsing, Photoshop, Music, Gaming, Downloading etc everyday use :)

ah cool, then go for what RJC recommended.

i was just worried that you hardly used the PC for gaming and that everyone was suggesting really big graphics cards

The machine I spec'd up my self was as follows:

Case - NZXT Phantom Full Tower Case
CPU - Intel Core i5 2500K 3.3GHz
Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3P-B3
RAM - Corsair 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600MHz Vengeance Memory Kit CL9 1.5V
SSD - OCZ 60GB Agility 3 SSD - SATA-III - Read 525MB/s Write 475MB/s 50,000 IOPS
HDD - Samsung HD103SJ Spinpoint F3 1TB Hard Drive SATAII 7200rpm 32MB Cache
Cooler - Corsair Hydro Series H60
PSU - Be Quiet Straight Power E8 680W Modular PSU
GPU - Gigabyte GTX 560Ti OC 1GB GDDR5
DVDRW - Samsung SH-S222AB 22x DVD±RW

Which would be better out of this and the top one, thank you for your help :)

Link shows the difference between the 2 cards:

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/330?vs=306

Both motherboards get reasonable reviews and several forum members use the Asrock I speced.

The BeQuiet is a expensive PSU, but they do make good PSU, the OCZ is excellent value for the money, even though its not modular.

Wow excellent mate, im fairly nooby when it comes to these things but my mate helped me spec mine up.

Looking at the link you sent me your card basically pee's all over the one I picked hehe.

Iv been told the modular ones are much better for air flow and tidyness is that correct ? Also was told its a very quiet PSU and hardly produces any noise.

Thanks for the help :)

Hey peeps :)

Thanks for the help so far, been reading a lot of reviews around the net and decided to change my mind about the case, as much as I love it iv fell in love with a cheaper case been the Cooler Master Storm Enforcer hehe :P

So as im very nooby at this been talking to a friend and he recommends this type of setup, please could you scan it over or perhaps recommend me a different setup with the Enforcer, please remember I dont need Windows 7 and the budget is £1000 with delivery, thanks peeps, heres what I have:

Case: Coolermaster Storm Enforcer
PSU: 750W Corsair HX Series Modular ATX2.2
CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge)
Cooling: Corsair H60 Water-Cooling CPU Cooler
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD4 Intel Z68 (REV B3)
GPU: Asus ATI Radeon HD 6950 DirectCU II 2048MB GDDR5
RAM: 8GB Mushkin Blackline
HDD: 1TB Samsung HD103SJ SpinPoint
SSD: Crucial m4 64GB 2.5" SATA-III
DVD: Samsung SH-S222AB/BEBE DVD Writer

Thank you people :)

I'd change the cooler to an Antec Kuhler H2O 620 as they are cheaper, quieter and perform better than the H60, if you want a all-in-one watercooler, if you want a quieter better performing air cooler, go with the Thermalright Silver Arrow as it's one of the best on the market and for only £51 and will outperform both the Corsair H60 and the Antec Kuhler H2O 620.

The Asrock Z68 Extreme4 and Asus P8Z68-V, Asus P8Z68-V PRO are all better than that motherboard.

How much are you paying for that RAM? You can get a good 8GB set for around £65 so I wouldn't buy it if it was more expensive than that.

Apart from that it looks great.

Excellent advice there matey thank you, never had water cooling before so thats why I decided on the H60 but I dont really know much about them tbh.

The Ram is £75 - 1600MHz RAM Speed, CAS 9-9-9-24 Timings, 1.35v VDIMM, not that this means much to me, the higher the MHz and timings the better it is ?

As for the motherboards can you explain why they are better ? I thought the Z68X was the newest and best for i5's ?

If possible would you be able to price me something up from Overclockers ?

Thanks for the help people, much appreciated :)

The higher the MHz the better, but the lower the timings the better (although it doesn't make too much difference with the i5s), also the lower the voltage the better too. That's not a bad price, and mushkins are highly regarded, not sold here though.

The 3 that I suggested are all Z68 too but the Gigabyte one you choose doesn't have all the features of a Z68 board, it doesn't have integrated graphics, Lucid Virtu, or Quick Sync Video. Although these may not be of use to you, if you can get a board for the same price with these features you may as well, as it may come on handy one day.

Goddamnit
I definitely would have beaten you if I didn't have to wait for Olivier's handy little gadget to install on my new computer,
To OP, I think Sk82Jacks is a lot better depending on how good the mobo is, has a much better cooler and a power supply with higher wattage although I don't know if it could handle SLI 570s. Also it's modular which is always good.

Haha Olivier's shopping cart copier is amazing :D

Motherboard is good. Asus P8Z68-V

CF/SLI @ dual x8
2 PCIe x1
2 PCI
2 SATA III, 4 SATA II, 1 eSATA
Bluetooth,
2 USB3, 6 USB2
16 Phase Power design

570 SLI Power Consumption

Measured power consumption

  1. System in IDLE = 218W
  2. System Wattage with GPU in FULL Stress = 578W
  3. Difference (GPU load) = 360W
  4. Add average IDLE wattage ~ 50W
  5. Subjective obtained GPU power consumption = ~ 410 Watts

750W will be plenty:)

Excellent peeps, very fast replies and also very very helpful which is great, thank you :)

Both look like solid builds, which is good to see, I like the Motherboard Jack has picked, has all the new features and explains with a lot of detail :)

As for the GPU very similar to the one I picked:

6950 - Wins on 14 things
570 - Wins on 31 things

Jack is there anything you could change slightly so im just in budget as im over the top and im not sure if my card will allow it to go through hehe :P

Thanks again peeps :)
