I've just mounted the 920 on top of the CPU, and I'm now about to attach the fans + rad to the rear 120mm slot.

The two fans plug into a y-split cable on the 920, but one of the heads is 4pin and one is 3pin. Both fans are 4 pin. Which fan goes to which cable?

Appreciate any responses. Cheers.

PS Building my first rig. Nervewracking.

the cable that is coming from the fan goes into the CPU_FAN header. the cable that is coming from the pump (bit on the processor) goes to a spare 3 pin output on your motherboard, often called SYS_FAN, as it must be running at 100% at all times (well, whenever the computer is on at any rate)

the splitter cable is there in case you want two fans on the radiator. if you had two fans on the radiator you would plug them both into the Y splitter cable, and plug the splitter into the CPU_FAN header on the motherboard

A review of the 920 I read recommends plugging in the CPU_FAN cable straight into the PSU to make sure the cooler gets enough power. Should I do this?

Thanks.

i would be very surprised if the motherboard couldnt cope with two fans, especially since antec themselves supply a Y splitter cable to connect the fans to the motherboard.
it would be advantageous to plug them both into the CPU_FAN slot because they are PWM fans, which means the motherboard can control their speed based on how hot the processor is. this means it will be a lot quieter when you are doing light work such as web browsing. if you plugged it straight into the PSU they would be constantly on full power.

*edit*
if you find it doesnt supply enough power for the fans, then you could get yourself one of these:

that cable takes the power from the PSU like they suggested in the review, but it also varies the speed of the fans based on the processor temperature. it allows for up to three fans to be connected to it as well, so you might be able to get a case fan connected to it or something
