EA have supposivly launched a bid to buy Popcap for a staggering $1 billion. Linky

Given EA's history of buying other developers, I really hope this doesn't go through. Popcap have produced some absolute gems like Plants vs Zombies, Peggle and Bookworm Adventures. It will be a sad day when EA milk the crap out of them with rushed out releases, DLC, DRM, Origin only etc.

Meh :(.

to be fair I hope they release plants vs zombies after plants vs zombies, my girlfriend cant get enough of them! :)

also means i can then play some games while she's on it :D

Eek.

That is all.

I can't blame them for trying but there is only 1 reason they would be trying this and thats because they recognise the money they can make. Can't say after the way Bioware have gone lately that I'd support such a deal as they'll likely just try and milk it for all its worth.

Popcap haven't released anything decent in a long while now, wonder how they came to that value

They do have some amazing games though!

This was my thought. Loved PvZ, not much else thattheyve done though.

$1 billion sounds a massive amount though. If they made $5 profit per sale, that's 200 million copies to cover the purchase.

If they did pay that, EA must really want them badly.

I have Plants vs Zombies on Steam, 360 and my Win7 Phone i love the game that much.

I agree with the sentiment to leave Popcap as they are but money talks people.

EA are still idiots, sure Popcap make awesome casual games and have a big audience that buy tons and tons of their games but it's a hits based business with LOW barrier to entry.

The company really dont have that much brand loyalty, and all the guys in charge of making cool games are going to leave with millions in their pockets and retire at a nice beachfront property. This deal is about as stupid as whoever it was signing up Robbie Williams all those years ago for $100M*.

Oh, and Peggle also rocks.

Edit: Or buying Bullfrog, Orginin, Bioware and destroying any value in the brand that existed when they were independent.
