There's a dog 2 doors down which has been barking constantly for 2 or 3 days now. When I say constantly, it was at it when I went to sleep at 12, and still going when I got up at 8. And its still making a racket now.

Who do I phone/contact? Rspca?

I would if there is no one there? How long has this been going on?

Surely if there was someone in the house they would get annoyed and tell the dog to be quiet

Have a pop around and see if there is any activity

RSPCA will only check to see if the dog is not being ill-treated.
For a noise complaint first it's a good idea to talk to your other neighbours as it's quite likely bothering them too. Then have a word with the dog owner. If that fails then you'll have to contact your council's noise abatement team who will help you take it further but let's hope that the owner is reasonable and takes steps to keep the mutt quiet.

The above is sound advice.

Although the harsh reality is if the dog owners are ignorant enough to let their dog bark continuously for 48 hrs i doubt that they'll be very receptive to anything you have to say.( I speak from personal experience – although the animal in question was being abused through neglect.)

Personally, i would avoid direct contact (sign of the times) and contact both RSPCA and noise abatement.

If a dog suddenly starts barking for that duration of time, then there's probably something wrong. I'd pop round and make sure the owner's not dead or something.

Taser... or some poisoned meat will make em shoosh.

I have a dog across road that barks for hours cos its left locked up in house on its own. does eventually shut up but.. it is annoying.. Not as annoying as my raucous party animal neighbour who parties from 9pm til 7am but hey ho... & she got her house robbed last night and they never even took the stereo :(

This. It's not natural for a dog to be barking non-stop for that amount of time. Something must be up.

how do you know it was non stop if you were asleep for 8 hours?
I assume you would also have been at work / school / whatever during the day also?

Because depending on breed, I give OP permission to cease the dogs life, thus is the first steps towards solving the problem!

One of the most ridiculous posts I have ever seen on the forum. I suppose you think you are being funny. What breed of dog would you consider killing before other breeds?

Well anytime I've been around to hear it, its been barking.
As for breed, unsure, but it sounds small and yappy.

I wouldn't usually bother with it, but I havnt heard it before and I've been here 2 years. Will Investigate tomorrow.

Anything with a closer resemblance to a rat than a proper dog should be first against the wall, clearly.

And bear in mind you are in Scotland, are you sure the yapping isn't just two teenage girls talking to each other?
