TF2 gone free to play

You'd kinda hope they'd already have considered the possibility of hacking becoming rife though and have something planned to deal with it. Or just assume it'll blow over and admins will ban people.

Interesting move either way.

As a long term veteran of TF and TFC, I knew TF2 was a joke as I tried it when it first came out, but some years down the line it's far, far worse.

It's well polished visually in every department and for that Valve deserve a lot of credit, but in terms of actual game play, map design, weapon design, balance and authenticity it's diabolical!

Kinda glad I won’t have to endure people with your attitude on TF2 servers to be honest. How long did you play each class for and on how many maps with how many weapons? Can you see how you might be wrong?
 
ffs, i just bought this for a friends birthday three days ago.

Ive followed gunz, combat arms and bf heroes right from when they were all in beta. All of them promised that paying for things with real money would not get you any advantage over those items bought with in game currency. Whilst they were still in beta and everyone was equal, they were really fun.The second they came out of beta the micro transactions went through the roof and all three of them forgot their promise quite quickly and started releasing new weapons that were much better than the standard ones and had to be paid for. I hope to god tf2 doesnt follow suit.

Hackers hopefully wont be too much of an issue with the whole VAC thing linking to the steam account,
 
Just fired this up after not playing it for about a year, all I can say is what the **** is going on! it looks nothing like it did! :(

I might try and get my head round it later tonight but it's very unlikely I'll ever bother :(
 
The usual 'OMMFG VELLLVE ROOOONED TEH GAMZE!QQQQQQQQ!!!!!!!!211111' babble going round the net as per usual when something changes. It plays fine, servers are full, not come across any hacking but then again, I won't expect it so soon anyway. Just too bad my Nighteam servers are down right now :(
 
The amount of whining is amazing, valve have given us truckloads of free content for one of the most fun multiplayer games in years, they've now made it free...and yet people still complain. Are gamers ever happy? If they dished out refunds for the orange box retail price back in 2007 people would probably still whinge.
 
Sweet, I downloaded it cause it was free for a week so getting it for free forever is great. It doesn't seem like my kind of game in the couple of games I played but I'll give it a good go since everyone raves about it being the best FPS made.

The attitude on OcUK is absolutely horrible. I don't know why I even look in TF2 threads anymore.
 
Wow, I don't know whether I'm lucky or unfortunate. I wanted to buy this but with all this talk of hackers i don't know whether to be happy or sad.
 
It's just conjecture if the game will be swamped with cheaters. Valve do have an incentive to keep them out and they have the means to do it so give it a try. It is a sweet game.
 
1) Valve will ban the F2P Hackers.
2) Hackers will either be saddos and create a new account everytime they get banned or realise that they gain NOTHING from hacking and stop playing or play without hacks.
3) Those who keep creating new accounts to hack will have their main account banned through IP tracking.

Hackers will be easy to spot. They'll be the ones using the default weapons who don't play like newbies. :p
 
FYI any newcomers

The extra weapons that you can find/unlock (or buy if you want to) are available to all. Each alternative weapon has advantages and disadvantages

You can still easily top the score board with all normal weapons, it may look like a steep learning curve at first, but it's all fairly simple and worth getting into :)
